A New Application Removal Tool From Chrome Introduced

by Chrome Blog on December 26, 2014

The internet is a vast system of computer networks that often includes suspicious programs capable of changing the functioning of your browser and damaging it without your knowledge. Keeping this in mind, Google Chrome with its new update has introduced a tool, named “Software Removal Tool”, which enables users to remove those applications that are unnecessary or harmful.

How does the Removal Tool work?

While loading up Internet, if you find a sponsored homepage with clickable links and advertisements instead of your Chrome browser, you have probably become a victim of one such harmful application. The new application removal utility from Chrome will be on the lookout for the modifications being made to the browser without your authorization.

At the moment, this tool is offered in its beta form to the Windows users who can download it from https://www.google.com/chrome/srt/

Google has claimed that the tool can scan and then remove software that causes unexpected problems to the browser. After downloading and installing the tool successfully, the user needs to launch the program to trigger the scanning process. Even if no malicious application is found, the tool will provide the users with an option of resetting their browser settings when it is loaded up initially.

Although this is not a replacement for an antivirus program, it is considered a convenient way to prevent browser hijacks.
