Miha from Parhelia Tools just contacted me with a really awesome profile management tool for Google Chrome they have just made.
The other day i posted instructions on how to create seperate profiles in Chrome manually by running queries, however some people we having problems accomplishing this however this solves the problems.
Firstly a look at the tools’ interface:
As you can see it’s got a “Profile Tools” button which has the following options in a drop down:
Create New Profile
Create a Chrome Shortcut
The options are faily self explanitory, however…
Create Profile will of course create a new profile for a family member or another user of your computer. When you click this, you simply select a location to create your new profile, along with a name for the profile. The standard is set to “default” so you just choose another name like Fred, and there’s a checkbox on that menu to create a shortcut for your new profile automatically.
Add Existing will do just that, add an existing profile to the tool to manage if you have created one already.
Delete Profile also will do just that, if you no longer want one of your Chrome profile it’s a one click and delete affair.
Backup will of course backup any profile you select, very useful to save your profile in a good and working state in case of problems or you could even save it on a USB stick then use the tool to import your profile on another computer. Very handy for syncing your home/work browser.
Restore, this will restore your backup on to your other computer like the above scenario or if you somehow corrupt your Chrome profile you can default it back to a good working version.
Create Shortcut, by clicking this it will automatically create a shortcut on your desktop of the selected profile.
Show Details, this will show you the path to your selected profile along with the size of the profile in MB
And.. Finally, there’s a Donate button if you find the tool useful you can buy the author a cup of coffee.
Note: 10th Sep 2008 – Download link updated to latest version. Also Miha has included a “Check For Updates” option in the tools “Help” menu, so it’s advisable every so often you run this to ensure you always have the latest stable release and to obtain all the new functionality of the tool. Miha is actively working on the tool so it will get even better over time.
