Dev Update 2.0.174.0: Remove Thumbnails from the New Tab Page

by Stamga on April 16, 2009

People who are on the Dev channel might have found some new things after updating their version of Chrome to 2.0.174.0. Well, first thing, Adsweep stopped working, but the Chrome developers added new functions to Chrome, like removing thumbnails from the new tab page!

Modify Chromes Most Visited page

Once you remove the thumbnail, you will never see the site pop up in the Most Visited page ever again… unless you “Edit” the thumbnails and restore them. Of course, this is still in development and you might encounter some issues while using this feature.

There were also other changes to this version like:

  • They added “Undo Tab Close” and “New Tab” to the right-click menu on the tab bar
  • They removed the ability to cut or copy passwords from a password text-field
  • They added a shortcut to allow you to change the selection in any text field (Ctrl+Shift+Arrow)
For other details of changes in this dev update, please referĀ here.

Nice to be able to delete thumbnail from most visited sites permanently…. gets rid of those pesky porn sites that keep appearing : )

I didn’t have a problem with AdSweep (User Script)

Only problem with deleting one thumbnail it replaces it with another !!

I feel a complete noob. Where is the big download bar to get the plug-ins? I am getting confused looking for this application/plug-in.

Its not an application, its just a Google Chrome update… Read it before commenting :)

My privacy keeper shows all stored thumbnails included new tab page thumbnails and I can remove which one I need.
See how to remove Chrome thumbnails.

Thanks for your comment Art. The features of History Killer Pro are great.

Being able to remove thumbnails is great but I would also like to keep some thumbnails that I don’t visit so often. It would be cool if Google team could change “Remove thumbnails” to “Edit thumbnails” and add feature to lock thumbnails, not just delete them.
