There were a lot of rumours and inside stories developing around the net about the search engine czar, Google scheduled to announce its much speculated operating system, Google Chrome OS. Today it finally happened and Google announced itsĀ new project, Google Chrome Operating System, which according to them is “a natural extension” of Google Chrome.
Google Chrome OS would be a lightweight open source operating system and would be initially target the netbooks segment only. The Google Chrome OS would be available only in the second half of 2010 but they are planning to open-source its code later this year.
What To Expect From Google Chrome OS ?
The Google Chrome OS would run on both he comman x86 chips and as well as ARM chips and collaborations with a number of OEM’s have already begun to bring a number of netbooks in the market next year. Speed, security and simplicity are some of the key features we can associate Google Chrome OS with according to their announcement. Google Chrome will run within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel.
Difference Between Android OS & Google Chrome OS
This was probably the first question which came to my mind as soon as i heard about Chrome OS. Fortunately, google has made it clear that the Google Chrome OS is a completely new project and completely independant to the Android. Android as we know was visionised by google to work accross all varieties of devices from mobile phones to netbooks, whereas Google Chrome OS is being developed to power computer segment only, ranging from netbooks to desktop computers. However, there are going to be some common features on both the OS’s as disclosed by Google.
What Does This Means For The Internet World ?
I believe that this is one of the most singnificant developments in the computer world with a breakthrough technology. A browser being extended to become an operating system, thats big! Certainly there are going to be alarm bells ringing at Microsoft. At present the leading operating system, Windows XP and others such as Windows 7 are all user friendly but they also use a lot of resources which somewhat slows down the process of accessing the web (this is the first time i am thinking like that), but if this new Google Chrome OS does something close to what has been promised by google it would be revolution in this industry.
Since we are Google Chrome enthusiasts and 3rd party developers community for chrome plugins, themes, extensions and applications, this Google Chrome OS announcement has made us curious as to what to expect from google chrome browser in coming days.

This isn’t big.
Try http://g.ho.st
It’s an online OS
this is going to change the way we look at an OS .. its time for the web way
I was willing to jump on the chrome band wagon before it had the support for things like java that I really needed, but if they want to create a truely revolutionary OS it is going to need to run everything windows can.
Miraj,
It’s certainly never going to support DirectX so you can forget about having everything Windows has.

While http://g.ho.st looks like an online OS, it is nothing more than an interface to an integrated set of cloud computing tools. You still need a computer with an OS (Windows, Mac, Linux, Google Chrome) to get to it.
Most of the things which slows down internet access is bandwidth restrictions. Unless Chrome OS can do something about that I fail to see what’s to be excited about. No thanks.
It would be really a fantasic step to declin down microsoft and its boring windows system !
Viva Chrome system !
I’m inpatient to see and use google system !
