Google Chrome Stable Update: Finally Get Themes Support

by Chrome Blog on September 16, 2009

Google updated the Stable Version of Chrome to 3.0.195.21 today. Alongwith with this they have incorporated some major changes into the Stable Builds. One of the most prominent among those changes are the support for themes.

Earlier themes were only supported in developer and beta builds of Chrome, with this update, stable version also supports themes now. You can download the themes from the official themes gallery or from our themes forum.

Other Updates

Improved New Tab Page: Among other updates in Stable 3.0.195.21 includes a new New Tab Page, which has been taken from the Beta and Developer Builds. If you were using Stable Builds earlier you will notice this change.

Improved Omnibox: One of the most innovative features of Google Chrome ever since it was released has been the Omnibox, which combines both as an address bar and as a search bar. In this update, the look and presentation of the drop down menu has been enhanced with additions of icons to differentiate between bookmarks, suggested sites and searches.

Faster Browsing: Guys at google claim that this Stable release is 25% faster than the earlier Stable release. Frankly, we would need to discuss that on the forum whether it has “really” gone fast or not.

Interestingly, the stable release still does not support extensions. Probably in the next stable update we would be able to get that.

For anyone not enamoured of the new NewTab page (and there’s quite a few from what I’ve read !!) you can get the old NewTab page quite easily ..

Just add –old-new-tab-page to the command line of your Chrome shortcut
