How To Resolve The “No Data Received” Google Chrome Error

by Chrome Blog on January 8, 2015

Every now and then, when connecting to services or websites in Chrome, you may get an error “no data received”, which prevents the website from loading. This message points to an issue with data transfer, which is not always caused on the user’s end.

For some, this error may appear randomly as they may not experience the issue for prolonged periods. In any case, you may choose to reload the website by using either the Reload button or the F5 key on your keyboard.

If reloading the website has not resolved the issue, you can try one of the following solutions:

  • Bypass local cache and reload the website by hitting the Ctrl-F5 keys.
  • Select Settings from the Chrome menu, click on Show advanced settings, and then on the Content settings. Delete cookies from the Cookies section and try reloading the page.

  • Go to incognito window by pressing Ctrl-Shift-n and try opening the service or website in that window.
  • Use the appropriate protocol directly, i.e. use https:// directly instead of http:// for loading the website.
  • Use a proxy server and try to connect to your website. Do not use the proxy server to reveal sensitive data or to log in to services.
  • Disable scripts and add-ons, which are running simultaneously, by opening chrome://extensions/

  • Ensure that the website is not prevented from loading by adblockers, firewalls, or other security software.
  • Use powerful security software to scan your computer for viruses.
  • Restart the router as well as the computer.

The error can also occur because of a remote issue. In such cases, you should connect to the website later.
