List Of Download Managers For Google Chrome

by Chrome Blog on March 4, 2009

I was just going through some of the feedbacks and requests i got from a number of google chrome users asking for a proper download manager for google chrome. Since, google chrome is fairly new as compared to other browsers so not all popular 3rd party download managers support google chrome yet. So just to ease out this problem, i am listing some of the major download managers that have officially got google chrome support till now and which one can easily use without any problems.

  • Internet Download Manager 5.15 : A free to try download manager for increase download speeds, resuming downloads and a lot of other features packed into it. You can get more details on this here.
  • DownloadStudio 5.1.2 : An ultra-fast download manager cum accelerator with 12 specialized tools for downloading. Free to try software. More details here.

  • Download Accelerator Manager 4.1.1 : A totally free download manager, is easy on system as well. If you looking for a light download manager for chrome then this is a nice choice and free ofcourse. More details here.

If you know of any other download managers that properly support Google Chrome without any issues feel free to add it in comments and i would add it to the above list.

I’ve been using Free Download Manager for a while, and as of a couple months ago it now has support for Chrome. It’s a very simple download manager and as the name suggests it’ completely free. Can download it here: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org

Download Accelerator Manager itself doesn’t appear to like Chrome. However, the MediaGrabber function does. Go figure.

I use iGetter as download manager which is great for me, in previous updates of Google Chrome it worked well “capturing” user interaction and downloading files, I do not why it stopped working.

I know that iGetter (www.presenta.net) is not free but is a great download manager that worths every cent

Thanks and Chrome is a great browser!

But all of them are extra softwares that I must install out of Chrome… Are there any plugin such as dTa! from Mozilla to Chrome? I don’t want to install other softwares… I want to use only Chrome…

15 dude 05.10.09 at 7:16 pm

Rodolfo, down them all is actually a separate application anyway, dig around in your plugin folder and you’ll find an executable for down them all. So you are already installing an application when you install down them all.

Download Studio 5.1.3 only has partial function when integrated with Chrome .

They admitted this (good) and said they’d have it right soon.

21 Lenin D'Cruz 07.30.09 at 10:57 pm

Let me tell you one thing, Orbit is, so far, not working with Chrome, and I HAVE THE LATEST VERSION OF BOTH.
This is a real pity because I like the interface of Chrome and it is fast, and, Orbit is unbeatable when it comes to downloading STREAMING MEDIA and more!
So, let’s hope that this issue gets resolved by the Orbit guys as soon as possible.

IDM works great for me .

24 cymby 09.17.09 at 9:17 am

I just downloaded and used the free vision of Download Accelerator Manager 4.1.1. that allows me to download the MP3 formated BBC news. Though it is not convenient for copying and pasting the URL, I still think I will try it for while, because no AD, and has not be detected by our GV while the popular download tools do not work as they should.

@john IEZZI

I am also having the same problem, it says that it cannot locate the plugin and you have to do it manually. I have no idea how to do it, and i dont know what is the problem, because it should’t be like that.

The only one that worked for me is Internet Download Manager. Free Download Manager, Gigaget and Orbit did not integrate and automatically capture downloads .

Does Download Accelerator Plus work on Mac?

32 In need of similar feature to DTA's 10.20.09 at 8:11 am

Hello, do any of these have the feature that DownThemAll has regarding images? In DTA you could specify the url and it would pull all images from that site instead of having to download all of them one at a time. I haven’t found anything like this that would work with chrome or on it’s own and am in desperate need of this feature as it saves me a lot of time.

33 Daiah 10.27.09 at 12:11 pm

Here’s mine :

Orbit v2.8.17
Chrome v3.0.195.27

Combination of both works just fine after i enable Silent Mode in Orbit (which is by default is disabled), but I’m not sure though.

34 ic3kit 10.31.09 at 2:12 am

Orbit is not fully functional with chrome. Not all downlaod link open from chrome can use orbit as download manager.(E.g: media fire, hotfile, sendspace ) Only some files are able .( mostly mmorpg downlaod sites)

35 SadistiX 11.12.09 at 12:24 am

dowload accelerator manager… will it work with chrome ..???
i need a download accelerator that work well with google chrome…
please help me…

40 mico 12.22.09 at 9:12 pm

@John IEZZI: just solved your problem. i assume your OS is either w7 or vista. i simply ran FDM using the “run this program as an administrator” option. then go configure it manually :)

41 erick 12.22.09 at 11:01 pm

What a useless article. None of these is an “extension for chrome”. In Firefox, I have “Downthemall” which works for any kind of download. The products listed here are all external desktop apps, which are a pain to use, for example if I want to download a file from within Gmail.

42 Nisah 12.23.09 at 11:58 pm

I love FDM [free download manager] but the key is that it doesn’t work with 64bit versions of any OS it supports.

I too want a userscript.org like extension to Chrome, or simply a better built-in manager that doesn’t add a bar to the bottom of my screen and allows me to remove or re-do individual downloads from my history of downloads.

In my opinion DTA for Firefox is better than FDM, but also Firefox’s built-in download manager is way better than Chrome’s.

43 Perseus 12.28.09 at 12:56 am

ive tried using DAP with google chrome but it doesnt work…i went to Tools->Options->Advanced and then ticked on the “integrate into google chrome browser” but still there’s no difference…chrome still uses its own download thing…and there is no option in chrome to change the downloads to DAP…
anyone knows what i can do?!!?

44 jake 01.13.10 at 12:41 am

Is there a way for chrome via extensions or userscript to call an external program like wget?

thanks

45 Larry 02.05.10 at 2:50 am

google is stopping developers from making extensions for chrome that will download stuff from the internet, like videos from youtube or any other site that has videos. other external programs seem to have problems working with chrome, some do , some don’t, it seems to be the luck of the draw depending on your overall software configuration.

i like chrome for its speed, but i will stick with firefox for its flexability and extensions maturity.

but i will keep chrome on my computer because it does a good job of freeing up memory left by other programs, lool.
