Lately Google has been experimenting with the Chrome’s UI. This includes minor changes such as merging the refresh/go/stop buttons and major changes like having a side bar for tabs.

If you want to get the side tab here is what you do.
Note: Works with Google Chrome Dev Version and Chromium, but might not work with other versions
1.) Find your Google Chrome shortcut and right click it and go into properties
2.) Go the shortcut tab
3.) Where it says Target and add this to the end of it: “–enable-vertical-tabs”
4.) Click “Apply” and then “OK”

5.) Restart Chrome
6.) Right click on a tab and select “Use side tabs”
And that’s about it. Hopefully this UI change isn’t forced but an option. More info: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=31763

Nice tricks,i tried it now and working fine, thanks for the plug in tactics..keep sharing the information
I think this sidebar is a loosing the premise of less resources cosumption, less redundancy, less simplicity, less clean aspect.
Perfect! With more and more wide screens becoming the norm, side tabs makes perfect sense! I had a side tab plugin on FF, but I highly prefer Chrome. This will make it a clear choice for me.
when i putt “C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe–enable-apps –enable-vertical-tabs” in the shortcut and i clic on ok bouton, i have an error message….
Impossible to load chromium with the parameters…
What can I do? I use chromium in french and win7 in french
wih kregs
“C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe –enable-apps –enable-vertical-tabs” try adding a space between exe and the double “-”
so it’s :
“C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe -–enable-apps –-enable-vertical-tabs” ?
Or other target?
How to do this in Mac?
I see, there’s an easy access feature that I can add in my Google Chrome browser. That’s pretty interesting, at least you don’t need to type the site url in order to be there all the time.
When I enter the code, I get an error message that it’s invalid, and it won’t accept the code. And I don’t get as many options as you have when I click on properties on the chrome shortcut. I only have “shortcut”, “general” and “compatibility”.
I’m facing same problem when I attempt to add “-enable-vertical-tabs”.
“it’s invalid, and it won’t accept the code.”
Is there anyone how to resolve this problem?
@JongMin What version of Chrome are you using? You can check by going to the wrench and then clicking on “About Google Chrome”. If you’re using the dev or beta you can then go to “chrome://flags/” in Google Chrome. And you can enable the side tabs from there, no editing the shortcut required.
