Social networking giant Facebook has blocked a Chrome extension, “Facebook Friend Exporter” which allowed users to export their
Facebook contacts into Google’s latest social networking site Google+. The aforementioned Chrome extension had become extremely popular as a way to export friends data from Facebook to Google+. Through Google+, Google has made an attempt to challenge Facebook’s dominance in social networking.
Facebook Blocking The Extension
Facebook Friend Exporter has been developed by Mohamed Mansour and because of its recent popularity Facebook has blocked it. According to CNET, the chrome extension violates Facebook’s Terms Of Service which says that one cannot collect information about users or access Facebook, using automated means without its permission.
With the help of the extension, one can collect data about Facebook friends that they have shared with users which includes mail ids, phone numbers and birthdays. Users could either export the data into a .CSV file or into their Gmail account. One could only access the extension with the English version of Facebook. It will be interesting to note the response of Google towards this.
