Chrome App Launcher Comes to Windows

by S.Roy on July 20, 2013

After months of deliberation, Google has finally released the Chrome App Launcher in the stable version of the Chrome browser for Windows devices. The new feature has been first spotted by Engadget and it helps users launch any Chrome Web app or packaged app directly from the Windows taskbar, even when Chrome is not open.

The application let users get immediate access to common Web-based Google services, like Gmail, Chrome browser, Chrome store and Google drive. You can use it as a shortcut to the landing page on the browser (Chrome) and access many useful Chrome apps and extensions.

Check out a screenshot of this tidy little program:

The launcher was initially designed for Chrome OS to promote the various services of Google and also to replace some of the features of the taskbar in standard operating systems.

At the moment, Google is trying to bring the App Launcher also to OS X. It was first spotted in February 2013 in the Chrome dev channel for Windows. There is official confirmation that versions of the program are in the developmental stage for Linus and OS X operating systems.

You can download the Chrome App Launcher to try it out and see how it works.

What is a chrome web app? Those apps (I.e. trading view.com) can be opened in any browser. I still do not know what is different in chrome or if you open it as a standard link.

Any insight?

the link simply goes to the Chrome Web Store … and a search did not find this launcher.
