Google Fixes 11 Chrome Bugs

by arupchou on August 24, 2011

Google has come up with a new version of Chrome browser (13.0.782.215) with 11 bugs patched. 9 out of the 11 bugs are rated “high”, Chrome New Logowhile one bug is rated “medium”. The other bug is rated “critical”. The bug rated critical is the sixth critical bug found in Chrome in 2011 and the bug pertains to memory corruption in vertex handling. It is a code which is responsible for handling 3D rendering in the Windows version of Chrome. The bug was discovered by Michael Braithwaite for which he was paid $ 1,337 by Google.

Other Bugs

Other bugs patched were related to buggy PDF memory handling in Chrome, integer overflow in uniform arrays etc. Two of the “high” bugs were discovered by Michel Aubizziere for which he was awarded $ 2000. Two of the bugs were found out by Google’s own researchers. I feel that the awards given to people reporting bugs is an important initiative undertaken by Google. The initiative interests people to report bugs to Google and which in turn has resulted in improving security of the Chrome browser.

Recently a NSS report found that malware blocking capacity of Chrome has increased four folds than previous year and by patching the bugs, Google has ensured that security remains one of Google’s top priorities when it comes to Chrome.

Now I know. I love Google Chrome but I’m using it less frequently because of the crashes. It’s lame to have Chrome as your primary browser then you load another browser to integrate your download with IDM. Until Google fixes this issue, I have to stick with Firefox and Avant browser for now.

Spell checker still broken since when it was introduced. But who cares, right?

What happened to the auto-open feature for downloads that the older version allowed? Hope that will be fixed soon. Don’t want to download/open every pdf manually.
