HP Chromebook 11 (Generation 2) To Be Launched Soon!

by Sagnik Roy on May 16, 2014

HP seems to be gearing up for the launch of their newer version of the Chromebook 11. Hewlett-Packard first launched its Chromebook 11 last year which was a success because of its minimal features and a Chrome OS which was completely based on a browser. Talks about the newer version being launched have been going around for quite some time but whether it is going to be worthy or not is yet to be found out.

Evidently, the search giants Google played an important role in the design and development of the previous model (G1). Not only did the white chassis and the color accents reflected Google’s branding, but also various custom accessories for the Chromebook and peripherals were also sold through Google’s play store and selected online retailers. The upcoming model seems very different as HP seems to have completely altered the designing and now it appears to be like a smaller 11-inch version of HP’s 14-inch notebooks.
The in-arguably vibrant IPS screen is now replaced by what looks like a cheaper matte screen and the references to Beats Audio is also gone.

But even though aesthetically there is a noticeable difference, the specifications or the internal configurations remain quite similar. The Chromebook 11 G2 sports a 11.6” Matte LED display which supports a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. Loaded with a very efficient Samsung Exynos 5250 ARM dual-core processor with a processing speed of 1.7 GHz and boosted by a 2 GB RAM, the only technical backdrop might be the 16 GB Solid State Drive loaded with the Chromebook. Although SSDs are known for their much enhanced speed as compared to the usual HDD, the problem here is that the Chromebook does not have a memory card slot hence limiting the memory to the in-built 16 GB.
Other smaller ports like two 2.0 USB ports, Headphone-microphone combination and Micro-USB charging ports are however the same as its predecessor. The changed design has a noticeable 0.2” added height to its screen and hence 0.30 kg added weight as compared to its predecessor.

The more ‘aggressive’ Chromebook 11 2nd Generation by HP is said to target primarily education purposes and is to be made available soon. But there is no official disclosure of when exactly this device will be available in market or what the price tag would be like.
