Latest Chrome OS Version to Come With New System Sounds

by S.Roy on September 21, 2013

The dev version of Chrome OS has been added with new system sounds. This means users of the latest Chrome OS version would hear specific jingles during system actions, such as starting up, shutting down, locking or unlocking their computers.

The change was noted by eminent developer and Chromium (open-source project for Chrome) evangelist, Francois Beaufort. He shared the link of a Chromium code review that reads:

“Added sounds for CrOS startup, lock, unlock and shutdown from go/ChromeSounds.”

He has also uploaded the sounds for users to listen to before the latest OS version actually comes along. The sounds can be listened to from here. The sounds are quite subtle and users who do not like system sounds can disable them.

Alongside, Beaufort has also shared another small change in the form of the ability to choose between “.org”, “.net” and “.gov” in the virtual keyboard by making a long-press on the “.com” button.

As the dev channel is updated once or twice every week, the features can be expected to arrive in the stable channel of Chrome OS before long.
