Chrome OS Launch To Be Delayed Further

by arupchou on November 17, 2010

It seems that people waiting for Google’s Chrome OS have to a bit more patient as Eric Schmidt, Google CEO while addressing a Web2.0 summit in San Francisco said that it will still take some more months for Chrome OS to be launched. It is to be noted that OS, one of Google’s most ambitious projects was anticipated to be launched by the end of this year, but for quite some time now it has been in the beta version. The Chrome OS project was unveiled last year.

However there are speculations that though a clear deadline for Chrome OS had never been set by Google, the OS can hit the markets by this year end, but products running on Chrome OS might not be available. However, Schmidt said that Android 2.3 Gingerbread, is few weeks away before it is finally launched. Schmidt also said that since Chrome OS is an open source, it will be available in tablets and notebooks.

On being asked about the difference between Chrome OS and Android, Schmidt added that while Android focuses more on touch screen solutions, Chrome OS will focus on solutions related to keyboards. He also said that one should take Chrome OS as an extension of Chrome. Previously there were rumors that because of delays in Google’s Chrome Web store, Chrome OS has been delayed.

Though the delay augurs well for Android 2.3 Gingerbread which works great with smart phones, still it is believed that the same cannot replace the tried and tested OS available on larger systems.
