This is a discussion on Autoopen within the Bugs and Vulnerabilities section, part of the Google Chrome category: Autoopen of downloaded files doesn't work for me in the latest dev releases. Any one else? Or any suggestions?...

    Works ok for me in 3.0.190.4.

    I had first to download a file, such as a JPG, and click "always open files of this type" from the download box in lower left corner of screen. The next time a JPG was downloaded it opened.

    You can clear the settings in Options/Under the Hood - but all file types are cleared. I see no selectivity if you have elected to always open more than one file type.

    The file must first be download and saved to disk. I do not think you can simply open a file without first downloading and saving it.

    I do not believe Chrome will offer the "always open" option for EXE, COM, BAT and maybe other extensions for safety purposes.

    It auto-opens my torrent files just fine. What file-types are you having a problem with?

    You can edit what Chrome opens individually if you open up the "Preferences" file (located in User Data/Default) and scroll down to

    Code:
    "download": {
    You will then see a list of file-types set to auto-open next to "extensions_to_open":. They will be in quotes and separated by a colon.

    You can manually add-in whatever file-types you want (or remove ones you don't) but even if you add a protected extension (exe for example) it still won't auto-open.

    I'm sure this will be obvious once I am told, but:

    Where does one find Preferences and User Data/Default?

    "Preferences" is a file in this folder that you can open with Notepad to view/edit.

    It worked like a charm couple of version ago with rar's zip's and torrent's but now it doesn't. I tried clearing the auto open settings from the preference and also manually by editing the Preferences file but no luck again... I'm currently using 3.0.192 (19803)

    Can you tell me where you were able to get 3.0.192. I've been awaiting 3.0.191 which supposedly fixed the animated gif problem. My "about Google Chrome" still shows 3.0.190.4 as being the latest.

    Thanks.

    Since you are using Chromium I am unable to help you resolve your issue. Chromium is re-built and released so often that it's near impossible to ensure full functionality all the time.
