Default Rollback to Beta - extensions still working

I have had to remove the Dev Version 3.0.190.1 - saving userdata - and install Beta 2.0.172.33 because the recent Dev versions were unable to properly run a valuable weather utility - wunderground.com - one which is not only chock full of fascinating information but is very valuable to those of us living in hurricane territory.

Specifically, the Dev version now fails to automate the radar images in that web site which can track storm progress. Earlier Dev versions worked. Also, the Dev versions (any of them) cannot properly run an online banking bill pay program from Wachovia bank, whereas the Beta version can.

(Dev 3.0.190.4 does not fix the problems.)

I had the following extensions and scripts installed on the Dev channel:
    Adsweep
    Custom New Tab
    TP Google Reader
    Subscribe in Reader
    Stick Notes
    Flash Blocker script
    YouTube Download Helper script

After installing the Beta version, although there is no toolbar, Adsweep and Custom New Tab extensions are still working. The two scripts still work. chrome://extensions/ still report all of the extensions as installed.

The Dev problems have been reported and hopefully will be fixed.

I can only say that there must have been a problem with your install of Chrome in the Dev channel ...

I am on the latest Dev build (3.0.190.4) and have all the extensions you had installed (plus a couple of others) on my install and have no problems what so ever ...

As far as I am concerned there are no issues to report !!

btw You didn't need Subscribe in Reader if you'd got TPGoogleReader installed ;-)

there is one problem in latest releases of the dev - the gif files are not moving. and as far as i can see, wunderground.com uses gif images to show weather progress. a temporary solution i could suggest, is to save images to the hard drive and open them in any picture viewer.
hope it would be fixed in next version.

Just to clarify - I was happy with the Dev install, except for the problems with wundergound.com and - to a lesser extent - with the online banking problem where I could use Firefox at bill pay time.

Thanks for that information. I do recall seeing some references to GIF animations but had no idea of how wunderground.com worked.

Just a followup on the above thread. The developers of wundergound.com confirmed that they do use animated gifs.

So I have now reinstalled Dev v3.0.189.0 where animated gifs function properly and have also disabled Google Automatic Updating so it doesn't shove Dev 3.0.190 or higher at me.

also you could use a portable 189.0 version just for that specific site, and use the latest dev for everything else. that way, you wouldnt miss the new features (if any) and you wouldnt miss the fix for gif images)

Thanks. Interesting idea. I was not aware of a "portable" version of Chrome. I've installed it on a USB drive and set www.wunderground.com as the home page. (Now all I have to do is remember to start two versions of Chrome. )) And I can use it for my bank bill-pay software as well when I can no longer ignore some unpaid bills. ))

I also removed 3.0.189 and reinstalled 3.0.190.1 Thanks to the files on FileHippo. In my earlier experimenting with this I managaged to turn off or disable - or probably trash - the Google Updater service. Now I get the dreaded "Update Server not Available - errror 3" message and have not found a fix for that yet.

I've uninstalled Google Updater, reinstalled it, restarted, rebooted, no cure. But I'll keep playing with it. In any event, if I can't, I'll be well aware of updates from the Chrome Plugins site and perhaps forced updates are not so bad; I always do want to be in charge of my own "fate" when it comes to installing changes.

Instead of installing from the filehippo download, download the newest Dev version straight from Google (it should include the Google Updater Service) if it's not detected.
