    Default Save As (Ctrl-S) sometimes only creates a broken shortcut

    I began using Chrome around May. I pay my bills online and always save the confirmation as HTML only.

    When I use the Save As dialog, I find the most recent document and select it, then change the date in the filename. I had been noticing that the previous month's filename wasn't showing up like I was used to when using Explorer to do this, but I just figured it was saving as .htm.html or something funky and ignored it until this month.

    I went out to find the doc/html I just saved and it wasn't there--nor were the others I had saved for this bill since using Chrome. However, my monthly water bills were saving OK.

    So, I did a search for all files on local drive using a portion of the name of the missing file. It returned with all of the old files, but only broken "shortcut" links in the "Recent" folder (see top of attached bmp).

    The file whose name contains date "2009-04-02" is the one I've been selecting using Chrome in the Save As dialog.

    There are also two related references to locations labeled "My Computer" having Explorer icons next to them--I haven't got a clue what this is about (see bottom of attached bmp). I also have not been using Explorer since installing Chrome.

    I cannot see a reference anywhere in this page to the BMP file I just uploaded, so I guess I better give you the filename just in case: "Screenshot of Missing document saved in chrome.bmp"

    I have several folders named like that. Why do you want me to search for them? I've already done a local search for the file on the entire drive and given you the output, so I'm confused what you are getting at. Let me know--thanks.

    Chrome creates at least 2 "Download" folders during installation;

    did you change the default location of the download folder?

    No. I did not change the default locations for the download folders. I made an output bmp to show you this, but couldn't find an easy way to attach it to my posted reply. Everything I tried wanted me to enter in the subject line as though it was a new thread.

    No, I have not done a save as Web page - complete using chrome. That is not the desired result and I don't care about all the embedded graphic files. All I want is the HTML text containing the confirmation code. I've been doing this for years and as I said, my water bill is saving fine just as they both always did using iExplorer.

    If this response I have quoted was intended to be the resolution, then you have missed the point completely. If I was wanting to save the whole webpage in this case, I would use the "Web Page, Complete" option. I was reporting a bug related to the following operation:

    "Save page as", with "Save As type" set to "WebPage, HTML Only" option

    This is a bug that has occurred and I have already supplied you with a file and explanation that shows what I was describing to you. I would be happy to assist you in narrowing down the reason why the bug is popping up, as I am also a developer, but if you don't want to take the time to listen and figure out what I am saying, then I won't waste anymore of my time either. You decide.
