If there's an easy way to do it, signatures (with or without links) should be allowed only after a certain number of posts.

After reading some of the posts by "newbies" that have signatures with links, I get the feeling that the posts are primarily to give exposure to the signatures rather than to contribute meaningfully or even to ask genuine questions.

Just another "newbie's" point of view.

    In total agreement ...

This has been a major issue from day one and should be addressed as a matter of urgency !!

I dunno. If that's set in place, people who want to advertise will likely just spam up 10 posts or whatever to get links in their signatures.
There's not really enough moderation here to ban people while they're spamming up those posts.

True. But some forums also have a waiting period between posts (and even searches). If there's some way to regulate the number of posts per given period, there's a chance that a moderator can spot and "kill" the offender.

Of course, if there's no moderator on duty at the time ...

The moderators, like the owner of the site, don't seem to bother anymore ...
