    Default ChromeThemes Repository/Gallery -> Now Open

    Hello Guys,

    I have now opened our ChromeThemes Gallery/Repository. I invite all the theme developers to register at the site -> Chrome Themes Gallery and submit your themes there.

    Its on the same platform as our Chrome Extensions Gallery.

    This is not only for .crx themes but also for .dll theme files as well.

    Just a note -> if you are uploading a .dll theme with more than 1 file in it -> please use a zip archive or rar archive and then upload. Also if you just mention it in your description that this is a .dll file then i would add a caution message visible prominently when approving the themes.

    Best Regards,

    Admin. Chrome

    Is there really this need to have to create a new profile for all 3 sites... Would be easier if they could share logins :=) ? Or perhaps use the google login api?

    Yeah, why so many sites, Chrome Admin? Something which niggles me is the advertising, especially on a .org site, as .org domains are meant to be for organisations such as charities, not-for-profit companies, etc., yet chromeplugins.org is plastered with adverts. (Though not a problem for me, as I use Proxomitron to block them all). I run a site in the UK for a charity, and I personally pay for the hosting, which on a fast server at 20GB per month bandwidth is only 15 per year. So hosting is cheap, and even cheaper in the USA - what exactly are you after money for?

    The old claim that "We need funds to host the site" are bullshit these days, so I can only conclude that your Chrome Plugins and Chrome Themes are for profit. I don't have a problem with that as long as you're honest about it. If you want to make money (even a small amount) then stop using .org domains, and ASK people to donate or pay a small amount. You know, if you put a small click-through button with a hover explanation to donate, I wouldn't bother blocking it. But those huge and stupid adverts which take up half the screen... Not only do I block them, I show others how to block them too. Nobody wants to see that junk all over the screen.

    Why not just say, "I earn my living in small amounts from websites I create, such as this one, so if you have a few pennies to spare then please hit the 'Donate' button and send a dollar. Any small amount helps keep this site and forums running, and thanks!" You have HUGE amounts of people clicking through your site(s), but they'll respond better to honesty than a bunch of junk all over their screen!

    @Michael:

    1. You are bashing a guy who is providing a free service to you, why?
    2. It looks that you can stop the ads from showing up so what is your problem?
    3. Domain extensions mean absolutely nothing these days, you just pay for them.
    4. There is no such thing as a free meal, stop dreaming.
    5. I for one get anoyed by the "Please contribute" buttons, I prefer site owners to use AdSense .
    .
    .
    99. you might send the same comments to Google

    and I would like to re-iterate number 2

    @Luc VN:

    * 1. You are bashing a guy who is providing a free service to you, why?

    I'm not 'bashing' anyone Luc, I'm merely pointing out differences between charitable and profitable sites.

    * 2. It looks that you can stop the ads from showing up so what is your problem?

    No problem for me, but how about the thousands of visitors who don't know how to block ads? They see a whole page of crap and click the CLOSE button. They don't get to see all of the cool stuff in here because the sodding ads put them off. (I've seen this in action).

    * 3. Domain extensions mean absolutely nothing these days, you just pay for them.

    I disagree. Domains SHOULD mean something, and still do. If you want to create a site full of advertising crap and register it as a .org domain then you're free to do so. But I can tell you from experience that people who click a link to it will instantly close the window when they see the advert crap.

    * 4. There is no such thing as a free meal, stop dreaming.

    Bollocks. Who's dreaming here? My charity site is up and running, totally free to all who see it, and totally free to the organisation I work for. I paid for it, 15 per year (oh my god, my bank account will just DIE!) FREE, as in, I gift it to others. Got that point yet..? FREE is a GIFT. Stuffing adverts in the face of people who browse the web is a ****ing pain in the ****. End of story.

    * 5. I for one get anoyed by the "Please contribute" buttons, I prefer site owners to use AdSense.

    Really? Well you enjoy your adverts matey. I don't want to see them. EVER.

    * 99. you might send the same comments to Google

    No, YOU send your comments to Google. I block all Google crap automatically, so I never see any of their shit. Ever.

    * And I would like to re-iterate number 2

    Really. Then block the crap, and stop posting about how blocking the crap is an issue. ****ing no brainer, or what.

    No worries Sulasno. Please feel free to edit or delete my posts, and let me know why. I have no concerns regarding strong discussions or argument, and I don't even mind if Chrome Admin says, "I don't like you dissing my adverts", or some such. After all, it's not my site. Personally, I really dislike adverts, and income to support a site can be gained in other ways. And my point about .org domains stands: They should NOT be used for money making purposes. Anyway, let's see how it goes!

    i'm trying to figure out how chrome got the background of the site to match my mother's lipstick shade to a ''t'' . dude, you need a better color scheme .

    if chrome can hold out one more week without changing the version, i think i can start getting back into theming and then i'd be happy to contribute to that site . the webfiti ad (left) has gotta go . i swear i can smell ''axe'' kiddie cologne just by looking at it .
    For the record: Hello Kitty and Naruto Themes are the suck .

    As always, opinions may differ...
    I prefer Google Chrome to improve weekly over any "easier theming"
