as a newbie in creating theme, I find creating themes using dll more interesting :-)

there is a tool available to create themes in crx which is rather basic and I read that there's another one (not sure how soon it will be available though)

The best part about extensions is that its one click install.. and for a repository i think that is very important.. Getting a .dll file and then give instructions can lead to confusions..?

though true about installing crx, there are limited themes

a good example would be VoyD's Toons theme;
in the end, he moved from crx to dll :-)
(which I am using for Chromium and still works)

pcki11 is not updating his DST to crx

personally I doubt JK and Stamga are going to convert their themes to crx; I could be wrong though

I'm not moving to .crx till I can create an actual theme for it, not just a color-style.
And I think it'll be the same for JK.

How about making a section for each? Cause if I remember right, its like that on Firefox's theme site.. some of them have extra files to replace for themes to actually work.

crx themes are simply colours; dll theme is an art :-)

Official support or not, it's not like they shun dlls. I think they are a definite must considering the functionality difference of current.
With proper warnings of technical awareness being needed, and ability to tag dlls with the Chrome version numbers it works on, it should be perfectly fine. Perhaps you could even manage a one-click install with them by taking advantage of Google Gears?

Glad this is finally coming to light though. ^^

I'd rather push to have more feature on crx themes, hacking a dll may be cool or fun or may lead to better results, but It is not accessible by anyone.

hacking a dll to create a theme is not that difficult though you would have to be very patient
