Forum Rules?

I was thinking about drafting up some forum rules as a courtesy to the community. I already have an idea of the no-brainers but I'm looking for some suggestions from the regular posters. Anything in particular you have been seeing that should be called out specifically?

Does anyone think this is something we should have?

There are certain forum rules at the time of registering which are to be followed. There is also a terms and condition that this forum is not meant to be spammed with useless advertisements and promotion of their individual websites.

However, since our community is still very young and is just starting to grow now with the launch of extensions for chrome, i do think that we would be needing some rules, though not any hard and fast rules as such.

I would be integrating a Plugins Directory of sorts where users can submit their extensions for chrome, rate it, review it, download it and look for support of those plugins on our forum. I am sure there might be some guys out there who can help!!

as a forum junkie, I think basic general rules would apply to a software forum.

Spam would seem to be the biggest problem in a software board

Ok, only reason I ask is because I've seen a large increase in inappropriate link being posted. And I honestly don't remember what the rules were when I registered :-D

If you see there are a lot of useless links being posted which have nothing to do with our community then you can simple delete those links and issue an infraction to the member who posted.

Note: If links are there in signature then its not a problem. But if useless links are posted in posts/threads then you should remove those and issue an infraction to the member.

Thanks guys :-D Just trying to do my part to help the community.

And I was definitely thinking of just just common rules, nothing hard or turn-offish. We get SO many visitors, and people who register just to post 1 thing or ask 1 question that a lot of newcomers may not be as well versed in forum manners as others.

I really dislike banning people, especially if I cannot point them to a rule identifying their infraction. Besides the obvious spammers, typically everyone else is cool with a slap on the wrist (ie. Oh ok, I didn't know that wasn't allowed. Thanks for clarifying).
