As I'd got nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon, other than listen to the football commentary on my favourite Premier League team (Aston Villa) I thought I'd take a stroll through the Chrome Extensions Gallery (sad, I Know) ...

I came across this extension Nothing :..https://chrome.google.com/extensions...jbmel?hl=en-US

It does what it says on the tin ... Absolutely nothing !!

What is interesting however are the stats - 464 Users & 5980 Weekly Installs !!

Perhaps one of the best comments (imo) is from a stafke who wrote...

You really want to make a difference in your business and your life? I can't think of any better extension to get you there. Do it NOW, invest in yourself and in Chrome. You'll be glad you did.

I particularly liked the "Nothing is now installed" notice once you've installed it

I know you get that for all extensions but the fact the extenion is actually called Nothing is a nice play on words ...

i have seen a few sites like this.. but certainly a first for an extension..

the more people that install it, the more are curious to see if it actually does nothing. the ironic part, is no one besides its creator really knows if it does anything. Although the fact it has been downloaded, and installed by so many, mean that its most likely not malicious, or google would have taken it down by now (unless it plants a time bug

No.... any user can easily verify that it truly does nothing.

Just look inside that extension's installation directory inside your Extensions subdirectory (mabenbhpjlchigbbpafligkdnlhjbmel).

The only thing this extension has is just a manifest.json that has the contents:

I'm with you on this ...

Not really into Installation directories, sub directories and manifests ...

Just know I installed it and my cranking Vista installation has had a new lease of life ...

And to say it does Nothing is actually a bit of a misnomer, as it has stimulated conversation (albeit limited in it's content) on this forum ...

Unfortunately as with the comments on the installation page on the Chrome Galleries (from whence it came) some seem to have taken it a little too seriously ;-)

What is also strange is that an extension which does nothing generates a chain of posts like this one...

Lots of people with lots of time on their hands...

I have exams and need to study a lot, so....
.....I make new version of my extension every day and test extensions like this
