    Default Site Chat Room?

    I was wondering maybe we should get a site chat room. Some examples of chat rooms include: http://majornelson.com/Chat.aspx http://www.rockbox.org/irc/cgiirc/ and http://www.redlynxgame.com/forum/chat.php . In my opinion it's a good idea, and can be used to help people. And here is a guide on building one from PHP: http://css-tricks.com/jquery-php-chat/ from CSS Tricks.

    That is the reason why i am a bit skeptical for putting up a chat room.. People would not bother to post their problems and merely put it on the chat box to get their problems solved..And the forum wont move ahead..

    Just my opinion..

    Totally agree with Chrome here...

    One thing that also struck me is that people who have problems always seem to do less effort in describing their problem than those who offer to help.

    Problem description: 10 words (e.g. Help! my Chrome does not do .... anymore)
    Offered help: 100 words

    Most of the original posters don't even bother to come back and explain their solution when they found one...

    Imagine if we had a chat room...

    I agree with Luc VN, and if we solve problems via chat box then if 1 problem is occurring to 10 people then we would need to say the same thing again and again. As opposed to now,whereby visitors can just search the forums for their queries.. or better if they google their issues and come to our forum to see how that issue was solved..

    Having a chat room would cool off forum discussions..

    Between, we may be upgrading our forum software in a week's time or so, and then probably we can try out the chat room for 2-3 days and see what happens if there is much demand by members here..

    as a forum junkie, I find the chat useful in posting a short "hello" ;

    nobody will post their Chrome problems in a chat box and no one will post or suggest a solution; a forum is not a 24/7 support helpdesk;

    a chatbox is a free for all and nobody will monitor the contents

    You can just have a note above the chat box saying
    "This is mainly for Chrome related or off-topic discussions. Do NOT post your problems here, post them in the troubleshooting section."

    And then if there ever is someone asking something, we just tell them to post it in the forums or he'll have no help..

    People won't really have a choice

    And I love the idea of a chat box btw

    I highly agree with you but that's why you have a bot or a mod telling new people not to post there problems in chat but only on forums. And rules for the chat that they have to accept, telling people not to post their problems there.

    It's true, for some reason people don't care or forgot you posted a solution for them. Or maybe, well this only applies to bigger forums, by the time they come back there are some much new posts they can't find theirs.

    Can't wait, hope It will be on my 5 day weekend because of budget cuts and conferences, and also hope I don't get any homework, like writing a essay like I have to do now, lol. Also will work on the theme, very very sorry couldn't do it sooner, so busy. Hope you don't get mad at me for taking so long

    I agree with this, and maybe we could come up with rules for the chat. And maybe we should get some mods.

    Or maybe Google Friend Connect ( http://www.google.com/friendconnect/ ) but I would prefer chat better.
