there were news that the Chrome OS will be linux based though not sure which flavour

Linux based is really different from GNU based.
The linked Google Chrome OS is not really a Google Chrome OS, but a GNU/Linux distribution with Google Chrome included by default ( maybe running into Wine ).

A Linux based OS should lack all the GNU stuff ( GNOME and GDM for example ).
Otherwise it will be just another GNU/Linux distribution (Like Ubuntu or Suse or Fedora ).

...and I think they would of placed it in ''chromeos.google.com'' instead of in their free sites section; ''sites.google.com''.. :P And it would be advertised everywhere
