I have been reading some reviews about the Chromium OS and apparently it is not impressive
So... Just close all the threads if there's no interest..?
Well it's early pre-alpha versionThere is no big difference in using Chrome and Chrome OS at the moment apart from the fact you have plenty of apps in Win. I haven't tried but i gues booting form USB won't be complete in 8sec so speed isn't a factor also
Well it isn't even pre-alpha, just a preview so I'm pretty surprised that people already can conclude that it isn't impressive, when they don't know what is to come.
Well there's a big difference between using Chrome and Chrome OS. The fact that you are running it on Windows - that again have plenty of 3. party programs installed -poses a very big and real security issue.
But the topic was more ment as you now has an easy way to show friends and to test your different machines, of cause this will remain for fun/interest for now, but i'v already seen custom maded builds with more drivers onboard so lets see how this ends up before we conclude that it's not worth posting about :=)
I didn't say it's not interesting/worth. I meant it's just toooooooooo early to get the whole Chrome OS idea...
I agree, http://blogs.computerworld.com/15127..._create_chrome Ubuntu is helping to develop Chrome OS, another indicator that they might be on to something (thought I don't see it yet my self)
I'll confirm, that the download from the link in the first post, does boot from usb disk.
I'll post more results after I've tested it awhile.
One thing to note, you have to sign on with your google account login.
So if you don't have a Google account, this won't do you any good.
And it runs pretty slow on my old laptop with only USB 1.1 support.
I will most likely make a live CD out of this and try it.
I almost forgot, the uncompressed size of the image is about 2.8GB, so you'll need a flash drive at least that size.
As for downloading the compressed size is only 307MB.

Don't do it, Don't do it! It'll only fill your machine with adverts! Oh, sorry - that was just paranoia.
Actually, I really wish they had created a new and super-fast OS for any machine. Windoze Vista sucks! (Well, ok, it works, but it can't even remember my settings!)

Well, I booted it up this morning on my Laptop, and was able to browse the internet and such.
I even browsed here once, but it runs very poorly off of the flash drive.
I tried ghosting the image from the flash drive, onto a hard drive and installing it in an older laptop.
That didn't work at all. Boot disk error.
My next test is to try and get it onto a DVD and boot it from there.
It should run much better than through the USB.
Overall, I wasn't impressed with it enough to spend too much time getting it to work on DVD. So I make no promises, that I'll get it going before giving up.
BTW, I was able to install a crx theme onto Chrome, but it was only partially visible.
The bookmarks bar and the frame were unchanged.
I believe the reason to be that ChromeOS doesn't have the original theme installed to begin with.
