    Just a side note:

    Many people do not like that everything seems to go trough Google.com now, i.e. the "big brother syndrome".

    But isn't using a proxy far worse?

    I do not know these proxomitron people and I do not want ALL my trafic going trough them...

    Just a tought...

    Oki koki ...

    I think the ambiguity comes from saying the Promoxitron firstas all the files come from the web site ...

    Might be better if you were to put the ProxN45j.zip in brackets ...

    As you've now attached a file for your ChromePlugins it might be worth referencing it in your tutorial that describes how to do it (which is excellent btw) ...

    Finally (I hope) it might be worth mentioning deleting the 'Readme' and 'Licence' text files (just to tidy things up)...

    Apologies for being a pain ;-)

    Luc VN :
    Its a local proxy, its an app that runs on your computer.

    @LucVN; Nothing goes through another site - Proxomitron is a local proxy-server application. It gets pages before the browser, then does whatever you like before serving them to your browser.

    @StevePaul; There is something up above about how to remove the ads from here. I don't care for licenses myself (ie., do whatever you please with something I hand out) but I wouldn't remove someone else's. Proxomitron is a 'use as is' application, and I've just modified the config files and added some filters.

    @Michael

    Think we're at cross purposes here ....

    Know about removing the Ads from here, was merely suggesting that now you have included the filters in your ChromePlugins file that you referenced it in the original post (#68) ...

    Would save people the 'fun' of trying to do it themselves (spoil sport, I know) ...

    Ah, I see. I've been struggling to concentrate on these pages today as the site keeps going on and offline, refusing to process posts, etc. That's my excuse, anyway.

    Ok, will do. You're right though; doing it yourself does get to be fun (as long as you steer clear of regex stuff), and is the best way. More than half the posts I read about ad blocking are along the lines of, "But why doesn't the block list work any more? It was updated in 1996, so it should still be ok, shouldn't it?" You know what I mean.

    Wow, the forum's in a bad way today.

    Yes Luc, it's well worth giving Proxomitron a try. Once you get into it it's fairly simple to add your own blocks, and it's really easy to use and keep track of your filters.

    The really good thing - as Chrome's built for speed - is that it doesn't slow things down. I've been playing with Opera and Firefox recently to compare similar functionalities and apparent speed in use. Opera and Chrome with Proxomitron are very fast and effective, but Firefox (even the newest dev version) gets asthmatic with the required plugins installed.

    I've had a few conversations recently regarding content policy, but as I said the other day, I think expecting Google to add content policy is a bit like expecting McDonald's to join PETA and campaign against the killing of cows. With Proxomitron it doesn't matter though; you can block all ads and junk, regardless which browser you use.

    Edit: I posted a question somewhere about cookies and Chrome (can't find it now) but have just tested Proxomitron's cookie killing feature, which works great. Basically, you tell it not to accept cookies of any kind, then add sites to an Allow Cookies list. This can be accessed via Tray icon > Edit Blockfile > CookieList.

    @Michael

    Finally got to 'grips' with installing Proxomitron, however I've got a couple of 'strange' issues ...

    For some reason it won't let me log into Google Reader (so far) and when I log in here it doesn't retain my login details (ie Top right) so if I try to post I have to login again and then it tells me my post is too short ...

    If I put it on Bypass everything works fine (this post is on Bypass)...
