What's your opinion on Alcyon's filter set?

@jkroeder; I'd say that as long as advert, counter and stats servers are effectively blocked then the rest is just a bit of page tidying, and not really essential. As I've said somewhere above, I think the best way to use Proxomitron is to strip out or 'switch off' what you know you don't need, then just add to the URL Killfile one by one as you come across nasty ad servers, etc.
I don't see the sense in spending countless hours making huge and complicated lists which do more than is really needed, and also slow things down. Seems a bit of a waste of time to me. I get the impression that once people began making larger and larger lists filled with clever regex stuff, others thought they had to add more clever stuff too. In the end you have a sledgehammer to crack nuts with. My own URL Killfile now has just 56 lines I've added myself, and a few Web Page filters to tidy up this site and YouTube. It does the job superbly, is lightening fast, and I have plenty of time for doing other things.![]()

ive used bfilter ever since Michael3185 introduced it to this forum, so just wanna thank you for the advice it works like a charm!
@amadeus; Glad it's working well for you. Proxomitron's got quite a few extras, but if BFilter does it then that's all you need. I get a real shock when I leave mine on 'bypass' and then see ads spewed all over pages. It doesn't stay off for long!

I was like you and used BFilter at first (after Michael3185's excellent tutorial) ...
However I have followed his lead and switched to Proxomitron, can I recommend you do the same, you won't be disappointed...
Don't know about excellent, but cheers for the nod StevePaul.
One of the things I hope to get across is how easy Proxomitron is to use, and how keeping it simple and only adding your own URL blocks keeps it both fast and simple to manage. For some reason other Proxomitron forums seem to have gone down the "let's over-complicate it" route. I never have understood why people do that, but it seems to be an endearing human trait!
I'm thinking of setting up my own forum for all things Chrome, with emphasis on ad blocking. I'll post a link if/when I do.

The people on the Proxo forums seem to prefer the preemptive attack....destroy anything that MIGHT be an add OR dangerous. So you browse the web and anytime something doesnt work you have to figure out what it was and then set rules for that.....it drove me nuts, ALOT of sites didnt work for me. Keep it simple stupid![]()
@Michael
Your own forum ?
God help any 'spammers' ;-)
Too right PAEz. I spent ages trying to work out which part of a stack of crazy-clever files was causing sites to die. After some days of it, I just ripped everything out of Proxomitron and carefully adding things back in one by one. Then I added a few URL blocks, then some more, and it's still small and fast but works perfectly. I think some people look at it in this way (NSFW/language).
