I'm new here and have read a lot of postings but have not found the answer to my question. Please bear with me - I'm 69 years old and my brain is full so I do not learn as quickly as most of you younger site members. (I saw the poll on ages.)

Since I finally got fed up with the excessive load time of Firefox, I started to experiment with Google Chrome. And then Chromium. I am now running both, essentially side-by-side, using duplicate copies of the User Data folder, with user scripts and extensions enabled. User scripts seem to work nicely in both; extensions are more picky.

My question: When Google Chrome issues a new release to the Dev channel, do they simply choose one of the Chromium builds and repackage it with the Google Chrome brand, or are there differences "under the hood?" regarding that particular build?

Well I haven't used Chromium really so I couldn't say what the differences are, but Google does add some things, they say they do.
They probably add stuff like Google suggest and some more not-so-savory things like the Chrome unique ID.
Not sure if those are in Chromium or not, though.

I suspect that the dev channel Chrome takes one of the stable builds of Chromium; Chromium builds are updated on an hourly basis; I run Chrome installed and Chromium off a folder

Bugs in the dev channel Chrome are being addressed by the Chromium developers; there are some bugs in Chrome which I don't see in Chromium

off topic; frankly I don't see the point of running beta Chrome; run either the stable or the dev channel

One of the things they got rid of some time ago was the Unique Id (used to be in Local State) think it might have something to do with people using UnChrome to remove it ...

Don't think it makes a lot of difference at the moment the Stable and Beta are at the same release ...

As for the differences between Chromium and Chrome, you can expect any new features present in Chromium to be ported to Chrome eventually when the two trunks sync.

But I could be wrong, I'm not on the Chrome dev team ;P

Talking of releases (bit off topic I know) any one know what's happened to this weeks Dev release ?

The other strange one was that there were no notes for 3.0.190.4 either ;-)

Thanks for the welcome. I've been spending a lot of time reading post after post and hopefully am learning something. I have also been seeing how many of the Google Chrome (3.0.190.4 Dev Build 19293) Extensions and User Scripts I can use on Chromium (Build 19902).

So far, Chromium seems ok with:
AdSweep Extension
Sticky Notes Extension
DblCLickDial Extension (not tried on Google Chrome)

but no luck with:
TPGoogleReader Extension (throws an error during Chromium install)
CustomNewTab Extension (installs in Chromium but not seen on toolbar and edit of Config.XML does not seem to do anything.)

FlashBock and YouTubeDownload scripts work on both.

And that is as far as I have gotten.

All I know is that Aaron mentionned on the mailing list that they were not going to have a dev release this week.
