This is a discussion on Chrome Plugin Requests within the Chrome Plugins section, part of the Google Chrome category: Also worth mentioning: -Add to searchbar: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3682 -Dictionary tooltip: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1171...

    Question

I can't seem to find any ability to float or tear objects from a page into their own pop-up windows using external means (not internal to the object itself - i am not talking about full-screen buttons in flash - rather in general: embedded objects, images, inline frames... etc) , I'm guessing the extention would have to put indicators somewhere (like adblock on FF) but these indicators would be the float docks/tear zones.... drag the indicator away at least 60 pixels on-screen and release and presto; new pop-up window with just the object in it.

my idea: browser will open the same page in a new window (without buttons, a javascript pop-up) and only render the object originally selected, and ignore the rest of html source code which does not equal the code for the element chosen for floating. You can't just copy and paste code into a blank html cause you'd lose some required cookies and html headers and stuff, this way the browser is still loading the complete page, just showing a specific piece of content from the loaded page.
(why stop at minimalist browser? why not minimalist pages too lol BTW i don't use firefox much nowadays and can't be bothered to try it on my only system at the moment, an Atom Z520 netbook i got for free which already runs chrome 4 dev build nicely

While we are on the subject, is there an ability to program an Always-on-top feature via extentions for MSWindows or is that more of an OS-independant feature that the actual OS shell would have to handle? Because current ones in Win7 don't work with Chrome specifically (but yes for other apps) for pop-up windows such as the one the first request would of created...

The biggest thing keeping me in Firefox is search engine management, and a context search extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/240

Can someone whip a plugin up that behaves like that Firefox one?

Type the first part of the search engine you want to search in the omni box, then press tab.
For instance, type google.com or youtube.com or whatever you want, then press tab, and it will search using their search engine.

Yeah, i know. But it's still not as easy or convenient as just copying some text, clicking the search engine, then pasting and searching. No typing required, and done in seconds.

And the context search does all that instantly, and is so convenient for choosing the engine you want... just right click a word, then search it on the engine of your choice. That;'s the only add-on that's keeping me with Firefox right now.

Default Automatic PDF Redirection to Google Docs PDF Viewer

Could someone please make an extension that automatically redirects pdf links to the online Google Docs PDF viewer? Adobe Reader is a slow resource hog in comparison, especially on low-powered netbooks, etc. It also means you don't need a native pdf viewer in the browser. I can't be the only one who thinks this'd be useful.

The url to redirect to would probably be:

    Code:
    http://docs.google.com/gview?url=PDFLOCATION.PDF&embedded=true
Where PDFLOCATION.PDF is the url of the pdf file.

The "&embedded=true" part at the end of the redirected url isn't really necessary, it just provides a less obtrusive interface.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can create this!

Yes, but none of them are really as fast as the web-version. I myself use multiple machines, and a Chrome extension that opens the file in the Google Docs viewer would work across operating systems so long as I use Chrome or Chromium or any other derivative. I'd try making an extension myself, but I'm ashamed to say I don't know a thing of javascript.
