That's a good suggestion, the toolstrip takes you to a new tab for the dashboard ...
Just include it as part of the installation instructions, after all this would probably be a 'one off' exercise anyway ...
This is a discussion on CustomNewTab v0.2 now available ! within the Chrome Plugins section, part of the Google Chrome category: @Devils That's a good suggestion, the toolstrip takes you to a new tab for the dashboard ... Just include it ...

@Devils
I'm with you on that ...
I can easily provide a bookmark to reach the dashboard.
However, I cannot provide the extension without the bar at the bottom.
Currently, you *need* a toolstrip to use most of the API as Content Scripts are limited in their options (and they should be, for several reasons).
Until Chrome has a way to have access to the API without going through a toolstip, you'll have to deal with the bar at the bottom,
Eventually, it will be better. Chrome's extension support is growing very fast.. but right now it has it's limitations.
EDIT: If you really want a bookmark, you can simply bookmark the dashboard page. However, I cannot remove the toolstrip button.
This is clearly a good example how much I don't know about javascript and Chrome's APIs.
Now batch on the other hand... :-D
S'ok, you are still the king of awesomeworld for providing the one extension that makes Chrome usable for me.
Devils, if you have extra free time ( i know you've been playing that brute game) you could try to do a little batch program where you enter your user directory (or it finds it by itself) and simply paste the xml in the console to update your stuff.. ! ..
I'm asking you because I can't/don't feel like doing it
Anyway, as usual, I sincerely appreciate the comments.
I'm still trying to find a (hack-ish) way to get it to work without the toolstrip.
I'm sure I could give it a whirl. Are you thinking of having the user run a batch file that asks them to paste the xml information and it pipes it into the config xml?
At that point it almost seems easier to just open the file and paste the info inIs it possible to link to the config file straight from the dashboard? Or at least the "0.2" folder since I think if you hard linked straight to the file it would just prompt to download it.
I was thinking of pasting in the batch file but.. you're right. It's really not that much simple.
Let's wait for Gears support or something similar.
Right now, people will have to deal with the Toolstrip and the copy/pasting.
Ya, the downside of batch is it makes relatively simple things super complex for no reason.
I'm even starting to use them less and less at work because there are just easier way to do things now :/
Can someone please help mebecause my extensions don't install properly. Here's the error: Errors
Could not install extension from 'C:\Users\Toshiba\Documents\Downloads\customnewtab_v0_2.crx'. Invalid extension manifest. Once I click okay on the install box, the boxes just disappears is that normal?
Are you using the newest dev build 2.0.180.0? Sounds like you might be using an older (possibly beta) version.
