So due to the recent crashes with the newest build (3.0.183.1) I thought I'd scrub Chrome clean from my system and install the latest dev. Unfortunately, the crashing problem didn't go away (every now and then crashes when closing Chrome) but even more strange is my inability to install CustomNewTab.

I install it, check chrome://extensions and it's loaded...but the toolstrip at the bottom is blank (doesn't have the config button). Even manually editing the config.xml file doesn't make the extension function. I'm gonna try on my laptop later on today to see if it does the same thing there after a clean install as well (to see if it's consistent with Win7) but I can't figure this one out. For now I am using the previous version of the extension and it works fine.

**I've also verified this problem in my XP VM as well. In both instances the toolstrip is there, just blank (see pic1). If you hover of the strip with your cursor it will expand vertically and say "CustomNewTab" but the extension itself won't function (see pic2). I've also noticed it does the same crash when closing Chrome in my XP VM too.

Just noticed the little + icon is missing ...

However, CNT is working OK, I have it set to show another page ...

I can now duplicate this problem 100%. The problem functions the exact same way in Win7 and XP. Please note these are clean installs of the latest dev versions. Problem MAY NOT occur this way if you are still running an upgrade version.

With the CNT extension installed, you get the toolstrip across the bottom but no configuration button. As long as you don't hover the mouse over that toolstrip it works just fine. You have to manually configure the XML because there is no way to open up the configuration page. This works just fine.

However if you hover the mouse cursor over the toolstrip, and the "CustomNewTab" text pops up...when you close out Chrome next it crashes and asks if you wish to restart. This happens every single time, although the extension itself still functions. For now I go back to the original CNT until I can isolate what's causing this problem.

Guess the solution (for the time being) is don't hover over the toolstrip !!

My laptop (Win7) is running the upgraded dev and I've verified it happens there as well. I guess that explains my crashing problems :-D

My experience is similar to what has been reported here, and it is very strange, since the CustomNewTab software I am using now is the same as I was using a few days ago.

I, too, am no longer seeing the "plus sign". I too, am crashing when exiting Chrome if I mouse-over the tool bar.

I am also using the following Chrome extensions:

AdSweep
YouTubeDownload Helper
Flashblock


...none of which have been updated or replaced in several days.

Can anyone get the Javascript Console to work ?

All I see is a blank console.. That's not very helpful.
