Just an idea another forum member and I have been thinking about. (I won't mention his name until he says it's ok).

It seems that a theme editor would be useful to a lot of Chrome users. By which I mean, something easy to use, which anyone could create a theme with. Probably, most theme creators think it's easy enough already, but they have knowledge a lot of users don't. This idea is a program which allows you to import graphics for the tab bar, background, etc., and then show how they look in Chrome. It'd be created in Delphi 7 Personal, which is freely available, and any number of people could work on it - a group project, basically.

Would that be a) useful, and b) something people might like to contribute to?

basically it's extracting the images from Chrome.dll, modify them and put them back into the Chrome.dll

a theme viewer would be nice though

Yeah, what me and another are thinking is of making an application which makes it easy to load images to create a theme, test the theme in Chrome, then save it as a CRX file. It's a might/might not thing at present, and I'm asking if forum members would find it useful. Personally, I don't use themes, but it would be an interesting project. A fun thing, you know.

Cant CTC be used for that? Or did the changes in the chrome.dll totally kill it?

All the crx theme editors ive seen have been flawed. On the off chance I might have missed one would you mind listing them sulasno?

And I want one thats open source and preferably Delphi :P

How to create a new theme for Stable / Beta / Dev Chrome

1. Download crx theme creator from here



2. Use the following as a guide
Background (400x800)
Frame (550x250)
Toolbar (32x32)
Tab (32x32)

Cant load themes and is missing alot of theme values.

another method would be to use U_I's method;

With the current version of Dev Chrome, default.dll is no longer use for themes; themes are incorporated into chrome.dll

To create themes for Dev Chrome, you would need the additional files;
1. Reshacker
2. build.cmd

Put the build.cmd, reshacker.exe, default.dll (build for 4.0.249 by the CTC), chrome.dll, in the same folder, then run build.cmd

To much hassle, breaks almost every update, isnt supported by google.
