    Default IE Tab

    I agree because one thing ie tab does amonst other great things is allow windows updates , so on sayikng that I think that a sort of ie tab should be first on the agenda, especially only banking etc , some sites only allow IE browsers to use them to access your details , which in my mind is silly because it is well known that IE isnt nessacerily as secure as some browsers and also it wold be nice for a linux version of google chrome.

    I looked at Chrome when it was released (beta). Has anything changed ? Still looks like a beta toy ? Clearly no plugins yet (IE is a MustHave for many apps, yes yes, despite the obvious fact it is insecure)

    Just wondered if it was being developed to release "properly" or is dying a death ? Apologies for using this thread, but IE is one obvious missing option !

    these instructions are really not very good. I was certainly able to figure it out, but I work in tech support. You need to go to http://www.meadroid.com/neptune/download/index.htm to download the plugin. The Chrome directory on Vista is C:\Users\[$username]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data. You need to be in the directory in cmd in order to run regsvr32.exe. When you install neptune, that dll goes into C:\Program Files\MeadCo Neptune. Yes, the javascript part of the process is also required.

    It will be nice when we don't have to go to all of this effort to do something seemingly so simple.

    Default Windows XP instructions

    "You need to be in the directory in cmd in order to run regsvr32.exe."

    Sorry for asking, might be a stupid question, but how do I do that? I can run Command Prompt, but what do I do next?

    Also, I have WindowsXP and when I try to run MeadCo_Neptune.exe I get the message:

    "C:\Document and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data\MeadCo_Neptune.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

    Any idea what's going wrong? I tried googling this problem, but there doesn't seem to be anyone else with this problem, since I couldn't find anything...

    Thanks in advance!

    Start-> Run -> cmd

    In the command prompt window (black window with white letters that you just started) you can go inside any directory using " cd "

    e.g.

    • cd C:\
    • cd D:\Temp\Whatever\Random_Folder
    • cd .. (parent folder)

    You can easily reach your folder that way.
    see http://www.amset.info/windows/dosprompt.asp for more info.

    I'm only guessing here since i did not try to install it.

    Here are some things you might want to check : Can you navigate (using window's explorer) to "C:\Document and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data\"

    Is it a valid folder ?
    Does it contain a MeadCo_Neptune.exe executable ?
    When you downloaded the plugin, was there any mention of it being 64bit only ?
    Is there a downloadable 32bit version ?
    Have you tried running it in compatibility mode ? Right click -> properties -> compatibility

    Hope this can help,

    Kyrax.

    Lightbulb IE Tab Instructions in Everday Language

    Hi everyone,

    I just figured it out by putting together the various instructions. Here are instructions in everyday non-techie language:

    1. Go to http://www.meadroid.com/neptune/ and click D-LOAD to install the software.

    2. After it is done installing, open the folder C:\Program Files\MeadCo Neptune. You will see a file called npmeadax.dll.

    3. Right-click and copy npmeadax.dll.

    4. Open the following folder (enter your Windows username where it says [$username]):

    * In XP -- C:\Documents and Settings\[$username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data\

    * In Vista -- C:\Users\[$username]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data

    5. Paste npmeadax.dll into this folder.

    6. Click Start --> Run.

    7. Type cmd and press enter. A black and white window will pop up with C:\> and a blinking cursor.

    7. Type the following command starting with cd and including the quotation marks and press enter (enter your Windows username where it says [$username]):

    * In XP -- cd "C:\Documents and Settings\[$username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data"

    * In Vista -- cd "C:\Users\[$username]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Plugin Data"

    If you do it currectly then that long string of the folder path will appear in front of the > character next to the blinking cursor.

    8. Type dir and press enter.

    9. You should see npmeadax.dll in the list on the right (probably listed under Google Gears). If you don't see it, then you didn't copy it correctly. Go back and copy it again.

    10. Type regsvr32 npmeadax.dll and press enter.

    11. You should receive a message saying that it was successful. Click ok.

    12. Go into Google Chrome.

    13. Turn on the bookmark bar by typing CTRL+B while in Google Chrome (if it's not on already).

    14. Create a bookmarklet by dragging the text in the box below to the toolbar:

    Code:
    javascript:(function (){var lh=location.href; if( !lh || lh.match(/^(javascript|about):/i) )return;  document.write('<html><head><title>'+(document.title?document.title:lh).replace(/</g,'<').replace(/>/g,'>')+' - using Internet Explorer rendering<\/title><\/head><body style=\'margin:0px;padding:0px;\'><script type=\'text/javascript\'>var script = document.createElement(\'script\'); var embed = \'<embed type=\\\'application\/x-meadco-neptune-ax\\\' width=\\\'100\x25\\\' height=\\\'100\x25\\\' param-location=\\\'' + lh + '\\\'><\/embed>\'; script.setAttribute(\'src\',\'data:text/javascript,document.write(embed);\'); document.body.appendChild(script);<\/script><\/body><\/html>'); })();

    The default name will be "Untitled" but you probably want to rename it something like "IE Tab."

    15. Go to a website that only works with IE, click your IE Tab button, and try it out!

    Hope this helps!

    Unhappy

    i rewrote the script to act as a render switch button if anyone wants:

    if you want it readable:
    Code:
    javascript:(
      function (){
        var lh = location.href;
        if (!lh || lh.match(/^(javascript|about):/i))
          return;
        if (document.getElementById("_nept") !== null)
          location = location;
        else {
          var embed = '<embed id="_nept" type="application/x-meadco-neptune-ax" width="100%" height="100%" param-location="' + lh + '"</embed>',
            html = '<html><head><title>' + document.title + ' - using Internet Explorer rendering</title></head><body style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">' + embed + '</body></html>';
          document.write(html);
        }
      }
    )();
    compressed for usage:
    Code:
    javascript:(function(){var lh=location.href;if(!lh||lh.match(/^(javascript|about):/i))return;if(document.getElementById("_nept")!==null)location=location;else{var embed='<embed id="_nept" type="application/x-meadco-neptune-ax" width="100%" height="100%" param-location="'+lh+'"</embed>',html='<html><head><title>'+document.title+' - using Internet Explorer rendering</title></head><body style="margin:0px;padding:0px;">'+embed+'</body></html>';document.write(html);}})();
    click once to switch to IE render, click another time to go back to chrome. It just does a page reload, so you will lose any form info between switches. also Ctrl+T doesnt work when in IE mode.

    i'd like to point out that the plugin is wierd. I expected it to use the IE that i have installed on the system, however this is not the case. they have a version of IE embedded in the dll file and the rendering is not like any version of IE...not 6, not 7, not 8. checked via Acid2 and Acid3. they must be embedding/using some different version of Microsoft Webbrowser Control. so this pretty much fails if you want to use it to stay out of IE for checking CSS issues within chrome : (

    hope this helps someone,
    Leon

    Default Chrome activex

    If your need for an IE tab is simply to view activex sites you can add the parameters shown below to the "Target" in the properties for launching Chrome.

    I use the following: -allow-all-activex and am able to view sites that incorporate activex.

    I am using Chrome version 1.0.154.53 on XP Pro

    Be sure to leave a space after .exe" and change USERNAME to your name.

    "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" -allow-all-activex

    I hope this helps.

    uhm...

    it renders stuff out of place... I think it's mostly css that get's F***** up
    like the chrome plugins page isn't rendered centered but on the left...

    but hey okay I can live with that it works it responses to most stuff like it should but... can I make it spawn new pages in new "IE-tabs" instead? it just opens those in a new IE window which is very annoying

    since it was just bookmarklets till here It probably is not possible because it ain't a plugin but please correct me if I'm wrong
