I hear this is a problem with LocalStorage.
If you clear your browsing data, then restart your browser, all extension data will be removed. The browser then acts as if you just re-installed the extension.

The same idea goes with all extensions that have user input/settings or an options page for that matter. The only exception I think is LastPass. If you tell LastPass to save your username/email, it saves it.

@mg2: We had a bug in our update code... if you update to the latest version, it may reset it to New York once more but then it should work.

@dragonic2020: Yes there is a bug with the storage that extensions use. We've tried to work around it the best we can in the latest versions -- that was the main purpose of the updates last week. The settings will now only be lost under certain circumstances until they fix the bug. I'll take a look at LastPass. They might store the extension info on their servers rather than in the user's browser.

I submitted the bug, and the replies weren't desirable.

Google employees say it'll be fixed in Chrome5. They say the current Beta version does not have this issue though.
