    Default [New Ext] New Tab Page & Redirect Tab Page

    Extension: New Tab & Redirect Tab.

    Developer: Michael3185.

    Browser Compatibility: Chrome Dev & latest Chromium only (needs access to Tabs API).

    Download: Files attached.

    New Tab: 1.0

    Perhaps the simplest extension there is..? It creates a blank new tab page when the New Tab [+] widget is clicked. Can also be set as the Home Page in options.

    You can open up the extension and change the HTML page for new tabs to create your own Speed Dials, then pack and install it again. If you use something like PagePlus to create a web page, which saves images in a folder, just add the folder to the extension package as well.

    The bookmarks bar will show if turned on, but won't show on new tab pages if it's turned off. Also, you can disable and re-enable the extension from the Extensions menu/page of course.

    Redirect Tab: 1.0

    Does the same as above, except it instantly redirects to a page of your choosing. The URL should be set in the extension file redirect.html, then the extension repacked and installed. The default redirect is Only2Clicks.com.

    Additional Notes: Thanks to PAEz for providing this link, which allows it to be done properly without showing the speed dials first (what a mess that looked).

    Yes, in fact the example on the Chromium documentation page did just that. Are you thinking redirect to a local HTML file with your own content?

    Instead of the newtab.html file I've used, the original had a file called redirect.html with this in it;

    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; URL=http://www.google.com/ig">
    </head>

    I don't know enough yet to add options, but for those who don't know, editing the extension files and repacking in Chrome Dev is very easy to do.

    What would be really cool, and possible to do, is use JavaScript to create a new Speed Dial page and use that. I've seen pages which let you move images around, set URLs and such, but I'm not up to doing it myself. Gotta make a nice little project for a coder who likes a little self-inflicted pain...

    Edit: Redirect version done and added to first post.

    That's exactly what I wanted. I used to use the old customize newtab page extension to redirect to a different page, but development stopped and I was stuck with the default page. Now I have this, so thank you.

    Great extension love it!!! I wish there was a options page in the Extensions Internal Page that let you change the redirect link.

    Yeah, I might play with adding an option for the URL and storing it sometime, though I'm still learning other things with extensions. (Something I'm trying, but unsuccessfully at the moment, is to stop closing the last tab from exiting Chrome. There's an extension which is supposed to do it, but it doesn't work). Anyway, glad you like it. It's all very simple, so do open it up and have a play around too.

    How do I change the redirect favicon? Here is what I have:
    <head>
    <title>Error</title>
    <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico">
    <meta http-equiv="refresh"content="0;URL=http://only2clicks.com">
    </head>
    And also there is a icon in the 1.0 folder called favicon.ico and the title is changing to error for a second but not the favicon .

    I think the problem there may be that the favicon you're setting is for the HTML page the favicon link is in, ie., the redirect page in the extension. But, the redirect makes the browser immediately load whatever page you've redirected to, and the new page has its own favicon (or not), which will instantly remove the one set by your page.

    I have no idea what may have caused that, as all the extension does is use a normal redirect in the HEAD section, which causes the browser to go to the specified page.

    It's also clear that some using Windows can't unpack extensions without something like 7Zip, but Chrome Dev packs them for you (using the Extensions menu and page). So, I'll add the files to the first post for easy modification, packing and installation.
