PageRank is a measure of how many, and how strong, links are pointing to a site. If the data is up to six months old, which it can be for the toolbar PR that's publicly available, it's hard to draw any concise conclusions from it. Nowadays it's mostly used by folks trying to sell ads and not so much by SEOs, because of how outdated it can be and by the relative imprecision. Still, I use it in my work as a decent pointer as to how powerful a site can be for links, to rank high in the SERPs, and for that, it's still useful.
Now that's why I use it and why there is a need for a PR extension.
My question now is, nandayo, why are you and other advertisers using it?
I really don't think advertisers should rely on PageRank because it's even more irrelevant than when SEOs are searching for good links to their site. Advertisers should be looking on the quality of the site and how related it is to their market. Estimated CTR, ROI, CPC and impressions are much more important factors when looking for places to put ads on, at least that's how I feel as a professional in the SEO/PPC business.
That could be why, because it works for me at least. Then again, I see no reason for China's filter to block only the screenshots and extension on a random Swedish server.![]()
