    Default Per-Tab Work Offline?

Is it possible to have a Per-Tab Work Offline extension? That is to say, you'd right click on a specific tab, have an option to choose Work Offline *just for that tab*, and from then on the contents of that tab would not be able to communicate with any servers until you reset the setting.

This would be neat for a number of very useful cases, especially for MegaVideo.

A browser-wide Work Offline setting would also be good alongside the above.

I dont think Chrome can work offline at all...
Google being so involved in cloud computing I dont think this is what they will aim for...
    Just my thoughts.

Hi transitionality. I'm not sure what you mean, or why you'd need to do that..? If you open a local web page then Chrome will work offline on it, unless something in the page tries to connect. If you open a site page, why would you need to work offline on it? Just curious. Perhaps fetching a huge/slow blog page from something like Wordpress, and then editing locally before reconnecting and sending it..?

I'm far from being a Chrome developer, but from what I've been looking at while taking my first steps into creating extensions, trying to make a single tab disconnect doesn't sound simple. Perhaps easier to just pull the cable out, and plug it back in when you're ready!

Now I think about it, does any browser allow you to work offline in one or more tabs while others are connected..? It's not something I've ever considered doing, so I have no idea.

The reason I'd like this feature has to do with how MegaVideo works. They limit you to watching a certain amount of video (20-70 minutes depending on territory) on a given day. Then they lock you out. But if you buffer the entire video into cache and then switch to Work Offline mode, you can watch the entire video without the Flash video player being able to lock you out.

Pulling the cable etc. are extreme measures for being able to achieve this, but it would be nice to have network access from other tabs while having just the one tab being limited. Since Chrome has incognito mode and separate processes for each tab, I thought it would be the ideal platform for implementation.

No, I haven't seen Per-Tab Work Offline feature in any other browser, either.

I have a better idea; two different computers, each on a different connection!

Seriously, Transitionality, I think what you're thinking of is a little like having two eggs in a hot pan and wanting only one to cook. In other words, no chance.

Perhaps it's time to just pay for movies you want to watch, or wait until they're cheap on DVD (as I do)..?

@sulasno: Chrome doesn't differentiate between tabs and windows. You can "rip off" a tab into its separate window, and you can "paste back" a window as a tab among another series of tabs.

Chrome doesn't have any sort of Work-Offline mode accessible from the stock GUI though, so we need some kind of extension to make it work.

@Michael3185: I understand that you're technically incapable of implementing this extension, but please don't discourage those who are capable and who also think it's a good idea. Thanks.

@transitionality: What you need is not some kind of extension, but the core functions to be able to even think about making it work. You don't understand my technical capabilities, only what you make of my posts, whether they seem relevant or not. Frankly, what you're asking is beyond the time and effort of my professional software engineer friends. In other words, not worth the time and effort for what it achieves.

And "we" (who is we?) don't "need some kind of extension to make it work". You want to get out of paying to watch movies, as you said. Hiring them on DVD is really cheap these days, so perhaps you should just pay for your movies as most of us do.

    @Michael3185:

    > You don't understand my technical capabilities

Oh I think I do. Here, let me quote you.

    > I'm far from being a Chrome developer

    As for this:

    > Frankly, what you're asking is beyond the time and effort of my professional software engineer friends.

Kindly refrain from acting as an unappointed spokesperson for others. Thanks.

    > You want to get out of paying to watch movies, as you said.

I never said this. Quote me where I said this. You can't. You're libelling me by stating such. This is legally actionable.

To return to the actual point: If nobody thinks the idea is interesting, the project won't get picked up. And that's fine. But this is not your call to make on behalf of everyone.

Now stop shitting in this thread.
