Default Canary Build - Not A Proper Browser

You know how it is, your Bank won't allow Chrome access to your Banking Services ...

So you install IE Tab and all is well with the world ...

Those of you who know me, know I've been a long time advocate of the Dev build, however recently I downloaded the Canary build, basically to see what the developers meant by more frequent releases (have to say I'm disappointed, I was hoping for nightly builds like Chromium)...

Anyway, the reason for the post is that I've got the Canary build set up exactly the same as my Dev build with all the same extensions installed, one of them being IE Tab ...

When I came to check my Bank account this morning the Bank site informed me that my browser wasn't supported ...

Interestingly, however, in the list of supported browsers Chrome was actually amongst them (must go back and try it without using IE Tab)...

So, has any one else come across this anomaly ?

So IE Tab didn't work properly in Canary Build? I haven't tried it myself as I read its pretty much the same as Dev build...

    Yep ...

The only reason I tried it was to see how often it actually updated and whether perhaps they would push back releases to the dev channel ...

Was hoping that the Canary build would be like Chromium and have at least a daily release, but that's not the case and Dev still on a weekly release by the look of it ...

So I'm going to uninstall it now, experiment over ...

Probably a good exercise for people on the Stable and Beta builds to have a look at what is available on the Dev channel, however don't think they'll move, they're probably a bit too fixed in their ways to change (especially if the Canary build was to screw up which would probably put them off moving to the Dev build for life)

You may wish to double check that.

Canary Chrome does seem to update daily. My Canary build was 6.0.478 yesterday and 6.0.479 today. And, yes, this was updated automatically.

It's only just started happening then, certainly hasn't been the case for the last couple of weeks otherwise I wouldn't have posted the comment ...

--> this from the man who eagerly turned "off" auto-update from the Dev-Channel...

Wow, what a memory, haven't got any elephants in your family by any chance ;-)

That's only 'cos it was back in the bad old days when the Dev channel crashed on every other update ...

Canary was never going to be my default (can't make it anyway) was just interested ...

I guess it's certainly possible that Canary builds are updated "more often", perhaps every day or every few days, as opposed to the approximately weekly Dev releases.

It is unlikely that Canary builds will be listed in the official Chrome Releases blog. If you want to find out what the latest version of the Canary build is, or any other version, you can consult this page: http://omahaproxy.appspot.com/ This page lists all the builds of Chrome for all platforms, with their current and previous version numbers.

    And as mentioned here:
    http://groups.google.com/a/chromium....5ef7c9f7e2d579

you can view the commit log of changes in the current Windows Canary build by going to:
    http://omahaproxy.appspot.com/cl?os=win&channel=canary

Make Google Chrome Canary Build your default browser

Extract and run from SetDefault_Chrome.7z file SetDefault_Chrome.exe in directory:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\_User_Name_\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome SxS\"

Tested on Windows 7 (x86/x64), Windows XP (x86/x64)
