    Default Chrome Latest v 2.0.170.0

Google has contrived again to undo the good work of our friend Stamga.

Unfortunately his themes no longer work in this latest version of Chrome.

Mind you, look on the bright side its keeps you in gainful employment

Man, why do they have to modify the theme files every update?...

Anyways, I can't fix the home button on the themes for 2.0.164.0+, but I can fix them to be compatible with 2.0.170.0!! But of course, that means taking one by one and rebuilding them.. And since I have other things to do this weekend, I won't be able to convert them till monday or tuesday...

(P.S: Thanks StevPaul for keeping this forum active )

    Not a problem ...

I can understand your frustration ...

I'm going to post on the Chrome Help site about this and direct the question at the Chrome Development team ...

I can't for the life of me understand why something as fundamental as the theme has to keep changing especially as it's the only thing in Chrome that can be customised !!

Well the themes aren't officialy customizable. All we are doing is overwriting the default theme file with a new one.
Once custom themes become official, I think Chrome will have a theme manager embeded into itself. And of course, they will stop changing the theme file's format.

Hi Stamga, thought you were busy this weekend...

As I've been trying to tell someone on the Chrome Help site I don't have a problem with things continually changing on the developer channel, if I did I wouldn't be on it !!

The thing that frustrates me is that they've now changed the theme dll twice in the last couple of updates making all previous 3rd party themes redundant.

As far as I can see there have been no issues logged for themes and there isn't anything specific in the release notes.

I know that officially they are not customisable but you would have thought that Google would have acknowledged the time and effort put in by people like yourself and at least let people know when they were going to change the theme dll so that you could make an informed choice as to whether you wanted to install the latest release.

As you know being on the developer channel you get updated automatically which ensures you are always working with the latest version of Chrome (which I prefer) even if every now and again something doesn't quite work right !!

It would appear the choice you need to make now is whether you stick with the 'Stable' version of Chrome and keep your nice customised themes or be at the forefront and make do with Chrome's themes.

As it happens the colour of the latest one isn't too bad !!

Yes I am busy, but I just managed to borrow someones pc for a couple hours...

I agree on what you said. I don't understand why they have to change the theme files every update. Honestly, I rather stay on the Dev channel and get the latest updates (definitly with the new extension compability)

Your as bad as me, I was out with friends last night and a guy in the pub we were in had his laptop out checking on the latest football results ...

You guessed it, I very cheekily asked him if I could borrow it for 5 mins, he very nicely agreed much to the derision of my other half !!

I think I mentioned I've got a thread going on the Chrome help site, not getting a lot of joy there about themes either...

    Here you go ...

You won't find a lot here, other than me getting gradually more and more frustrated !!

As you've created themes on a regular basis, you could do me a favour ...

Could you let me have a copy of the theme dll layout (ie fields, type, length etc), that way I might be able to understand why the changes every now and again ...

I will go and see if I can help you out.

So here are the theme file stats:

    2.0.164.1 dll:

-Image files numbered from 25164 to 25467
-Mini icon files numbered from 25331 to 25354
    -Dll size: 550 KB

    2.0.170.0 dll:

-Image files numbered from 25164 to 25470
-Mini icon files numbered from 25332 to 25355
    -Dll size: 553 KB

If you compare, they have added 3 image files and shifted the mini icon files up 1 in the latest theme version.

P.S: My theme is now available for 2.0.170.0
