Default Ctrl-W quits Chrome without warning

Just an alert: Ctrl-W quits Chrome without warning

I was editing a rather long input field today and wanted to move some text.
After selecting the text I hit Ctrl-X (Cut) and was ready to do a Ctrl-V (Paste)
but everything was gone and Chrome was closed...

In fact I missed Ctrl-X and hit Ctrl-W (Close) instead... (I use an AZERTY keyboard)

Maybe Chrome should issue a confirmation dialog or something like "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?" when you hit Ctrl-W?

Just an alert as I said...

After seeing a video from Chrome's blog I guess it was intended to be that way.

They don't want to popup alerts in Chrome. That's the why also if you want to restore tabs after a browser crash, you need to click on the new tab page link for that or go to options and select "restore all previous tabs".

I do agree that's bad... At least in the last remaining tab there should be such confirmation.

For example: sometimes the user expect to close the last tab in order to show the new tab page (most browsers behave as this, so it's what users are used to).

In fact, this has already been suggested... As you can see at the link below, it's already in the poll for new features

Yeah, ctrl+W is apparently some tab closing standard hotkey. It's the same in Notepad++ Except they have windows if the document is unsaved.

Make an extension which pops up a confirmation?
