    Default Does chromium automatically update?

    Im not sure if chromium updates itself, or if users have to self update, (your version)

    if not it should, or atleast have an 'Update" button under about chromium

    I could see why it wouldnt auto update (it might lag up ur bandwith with the frequent updates)

    If you mean the open-source Chromium browser which is compiled from the Chromium sourcecode, then no it does not auto update, and it cannot have an update button either.

    The reason is because the Chromium sourcecode is open-source, and can be downloaded, reviewed, and reused by anyone. Therefore, there cannot be any "auto-update" code built into the Chromium code, nor are there any general Chromium "update servers" to check, nor is there anyone to maintain any such servers. That's why Chromium cannot auto-update.

    Google's branded Chrome browser can auto-update because it is built with additional specific info for the Google Chrome update servers which are maintained by Google.

    I figured it couldnt, it is still possible, since anyone who moded wouldnt have to much of a problem cutting that particular bit of code out... (or replacing it with their version link)

    still there is 1 primary place for the chromium project, thus an update button would still work... (and the link could be changed for modders)

    oh and has anyone out there created a program to update chromium for them?, or maybe a batch file

    You mean like a batch file to auto-download the newest Chromium..... now that's much easier.

    This thread http://groups.google.com/group/chrom...b0f68ac88972fa contains the guts of a batch file that will download the latest Chromium build and unzip it, also using curl and 7z which are both free.

    this is how I download the current build of Chromium

    How to obtain current builds of Chromium using a batch file for Windows XP ?

    First, download the required files ;

    1. wget
    2. 7-zip

    Extract the contents of wget to a folder and install 7-zip to the default folder.

    Create a batch file and place it in the wget folder;

    Code:
    wget -O "%userprofile%\desktop\chrome-win32.zip" http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/continuous/LATEST/chrome-win32.zip
    SETLOCAL ENABLEEXTENSIONS
    PATH=%PATH%;"C:\Program Files\7-Zip"
    CD /D %userprofile%\desktop
    FOR %%X IN (*.zip) DO (
      7z x -aoa -o"%userprofile%\desktop\" "%%X" | FIND "Everything is Ok" >nul
      IF ERRORLEVEL 1 (
      ECHO.ERROR EXTRACTING "%%X"
      ) ELSE (
      DEL "%%X"
      )
    )
    ENDLOCAL
    This batch file will download the current build of Chromium, extract the contents of the zip file to chrome-win32, place it on the Desktop, and delete the downloaded zipped file

    I have Chrome OS running Chromium 4.0.253.0. How do I update Chromium? Many apps tell me that I need to update, but I can't find how to do it. Thanks in advance.
