I just downloaded Chrome a few days ago and am enjoying the new browser. One thought I had when I did the download was, 'why is the only option for importing bookmarks for IE?" I had been using Firefox and it did take me a while to copy, paste and save all of my bookmarks from FF into Chrome.

When I installed chrome this was done automatically by Chrome...
I was impressed, I used FF 3.01 at that time.

Bookmarks from FireFox are automatically imported in to Chrome when you install, so i'm not sure why this didn't work.

Well that's good to know. I found it kind of strange that the only browser that I had an the option of importing bookmarks from was IE. But after a few days of opening sites in FF and then copying and pasting the url into Chrome, I've got all my bookmarks back.

I guess if the Chrome download works as they should, my situation will be just an isolated exception.

Actually, I am a similar isolated case, too. Same problem, but only on one computer. I am curiously waiting for the solution. (The computer, where it does not work, is the only one, where I have StumbleUpon toolbar installed for FF.)

I dunno guys, I just downloaded Chrome on my laptop and again when it came time to say I wanted to import bookmarks from another browser there was a drop down menu with IE showing and then when I went to make another selection it still only offered me IE.

As well, on my PC where I have been happily running Chrome, there is a button on the top far right of the toolbar with a choice entitled 'import bookmarks and settings'. Again, when this is selected the only choice given is IE. I don't even have IE installed on my desktop.

So you say that you have a choice of browsers to import bookmarks from. I don't think so. Not over here in my neck of the woods. I really wouldn't mind bringing in the bookmarks I have in FF but it looks like, at this point, its not to be.

I really want to encourage Chrome developers to consider including the option of importing bookmarks and other settings from different browsers other than just IE. I'm really surprised that IE is the only choice given at this point in time.

It just makes it that much smoother a transition and saves a lot of time to have your old bookmarks ported over to the new browser. The hard core users probably don't mind spending the time to set up a new browser but I have a lot of friends that couldn't be bothered it if takes them ages to copy and paste over all the urls for their favourite sites into the new browser.

This feature made me very happy. I had thought about all my bookmarks and thought they would be stuck on FF, but they imported right on over to Chrome. Which is nice.
