Default Stop Chrome closing on closing last tab?

Is there anyway to stop chrome closing when I close the last tab? I used to use firefox and out of habit, still close the last thread when I'm done, to get to the speed dial style page, but instead it closes chrome. Basically, what I want is when I close the last tab, it instead changes to the new tab page. Is that at all possible?

Unfortunately in Chrome it closes even if it is the last tab open ...

However there is an extension (Of Chinese origin) that will do the job for you (I wondered where they got the idea from !!)

If your Chinese isn't that great one of our forum members, 'pcki11', translated it into English ...

    The latest version is 1.2.2

    Chinese ..http://code.google.com/p/nk-gesture/downloads/list
    English ..http://www.sendspace.com/file/a8c024

You will need to be on the Dev channel of Chrome to implement this extension ...

No, that didn't work. But thanks anyway. Ah well, it only takes about 3 seconds to load chrome, compared to 2 or 3 minutes for firefox.

EDIT: Sorry for double post, came back to edit the first one, and it had disappeared, so I posted a new one, and then both appeared...odd...

    Before assuming anything ....

How do you currently exit from Chrome, more importantly how do you do it in FF as this is what you are trying to emulate in Chrome with the last Open Tab ...

Middle-clicking on it. Is there a different way to close it so it will go to the new tab page instead of closing?

Unfortunately closing the last tab in Chrome (however you do it) will result in Chrome closing ...

However if you install the nkGesture (English or Chinese) extension and haven't customised it then the mouse gesture of Up Down (could be Down Up, can't remember exactly 'cos I customised it) at the last tab will open the Chrome NewTab page (all other tabs it just simply closes) ...

It is well worth looking at the options available with this extension (which are totally customisable), for instance I changed the close tab from Up Down to simply Down ...

    Hope this helps ;-)

Hopefully this isn't too much of a bump, but I wrote an extension that solves this problem
