are the themes built for the corresponding version of Chrome?
backup the default.dll in the theme folder and copy the theme's default.dll to it

You don't need to backup the default.dll, all I ever do is rename it, well,actually I just put an 'S' at the front (sdefault.dll) ...

Saves having to delete and restore, just delete and rename ;-)
