If you wish to save themes in a directory, right click on the download link, and click "Save Link As..."
You can then install themes by dragging the theme you want onto chrome.

Installing a new theme, I believe, deletes the previous theme installed.
So you would have to download and install that theme all over again.

Chrome has no theme manager, in which to save and select themes.
Downloading themes to a directory is the best option available, at the moment.

if you download and save just the .crx file somewhere and then when needed, double click the .crx file , it will install the custom theme without erasing the .crx .
ie. below are the custom themes i often use and install by the process above .....

For the record: Hello Kitty and Naruto Themes are the suck .

pfil, your method is the same as dragging the theme onto chrome.
I mentioned dragging it, due to some people not knowing how to set crx to open with chrome.

So for those that don't know, right click on the crx file and click on properties.
    Then select "Opens with:".
Browse to chromes install directory and select chrome.exe.

Now you can double click themes to install them.

And just in case there was confusion in my first post, dragging the file onto chrome doesn't delete the file.
I was referring to installing a theme by clicking the web link, which will over-write any custom theme you were using at the time.
