    to really test whether your method works, try running it on a system without Chrome installed;

    I am running dev Chrome; with it running, I start portable Chrome and it simply opens dev Chrome. When dev Chrome is not running, portable Chrome will run

    So I'm not quite sure what your point is ...

    Chrome will always 'inherit' the attributes of previously opened chrome sessions ...

    Plug your pendrive to a computer that does not has Chrome installed and see whether your version of portable Chrome runs; if it does, check whether the settings are saved to the computer eg XP "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome"

    @StevePaul:

    I think the point of Sulasno is:

    When you have Chrome installed on drive c: and when you open the Chrome installed on your 'pendrive', all bookmarking & cache & cookies activity will be changed on the c: drive and NOT on the 'pendrive'...

    The advantage of a real portable Chrome is that absolutely nothing is installed and/or modified outside of the Chrome folder of the 'pendrive'.

    I do not not think this will be the case with your system, but I have not tested it!

    Or if you do not have Chrome installed on the c: drive I even doubt if your case would work as I think that Chrome looks for it folders on the 'bootdrive' by default.

    Hola, a lot of testing needs to be done here

    Hey Guys ...

    Thanks for the input ....

    Needs a bit more work, but I will get it working properly some how ...

    What I do know is that I can at least copy my bookmarks to the 'proper' Portable Chrome and that works !!

    In the meantime I'm going to delete this thread, won't be 'till later though so you can see me grovel !!!

    All you have to do to put your user data on the drive is use a shortcut.

    For example:
    1. Copy the contents of your Chrome install folder to the drive (say it is E:\) to E:\Chrome
    2. Create a shortcut on the root of the drive to this target
    Code:
    E:\Chrome\Chrome.exe -user-data-dir="E:\Chrome\User Data"
    3. (Optional) Change your download directory to a sub-folder too :P.

    Now when you use that shortcut all user data is saved and loaded from inside the Chrome folder and will be carried with the drive, just make sure you keep the letter the computer gives the drive synced with the shortcut :P.

    I use this for Chromium but it works for Chrome too. That way I can have my cache loaded from ram instead of my slow hard drive.
