It is even a bit disappointing, how easy it is to decrypt stored passwords.. I mean, i know that viewing IE passwords is probably much easier, but i expected more from security obsessed Google Chrome.
This is a discussion on ChromePasswordDecryptor - Google Chrome Password Recovery Tool within the Chrome Tools section, part of the Google Chrome category: ChromePasswordDecryptor is the FREE tool to instantly recover all stored passwords by Google Chrome browser. ChromePasswordDecryptor is the FREE tool to instantly recover all stored passwords by Google Chrome browser. Google Chrome like other browsers has built-in login password manager functionality which keeps track of the login secrets of all visited websites.
ChromePasswordDecryptor automatically detect the default Chrome profile path for the current user and displays all the stored login credentials in clear text after decrypting them. It also shows all the blacklisted website entries for which user has prompted Chrome to not to remember the passwords.
Update (10th Nov 2010) : Released mega version v2.5 of ChromePasswordDecryptor with 'Setup Wizard' for local Installation & Uninstallation of the software. It also has catchy GUI interface with new banner & icon.
Update (21st Oct 2010) : New version of ChromePasswordDecryptor 2.0 is available now for latest version of Google Chrome Browser.
Here is the screenshot of the ChromePasswordDecryptor showing decrypted passwords from Chrome.
ChromePasswordDecryptor loads the login passwords from Chrome database and then decrypts the password for each of the websites stored by Chrome. For more information on decrypting the Chrome login passwords read the article on ‘Exposing the Secrets of Google Chrome’
Another useful feature of this tool is the Export option which can be used to save the login secrets to the local file in standard HTML format. This will be very useful in following cases
* To take backup of the login secrets for the stored websites
* To transfer the secrets from one system to another.
* To store the website passwords at more secured centralized location
* To recover the passwords in case Chrome becomes not accessible or non functional.
ChromePasswordDecryptor works on wide range of platforms starting from Windows XP to latest operating system, Windows 7.

Knew about that, but didnt notice the little button Show password %)
Have also a look here about passwords etc...
Google Chrome encrypts all the stored website passwords using Triple DES algorithm seeded with logged on user's password. That means login secrets cannot be decrypted across the user or system boundaries unless under certain conditions.
Though this mechanism allows only logged on user to view his/her chrome secrets, it cannot prevent any malicious programs running on the system from stealing the user's chrome passwords. That way Firefox offers better security by providing option to set the master password to view the stored login passwords.
For more information on the internals of Chrome's password secrets read this article on 'Exposing the Secrets of Google Chrome'
Secrets is a strange word for this matter, Chromium is open source code![]()
is there any java script to decrypt these saved passwords ? and if it is so easy to decrypt them then any one can steel the passwords from chrome isnt it ?
