Question Problems making my own theme

Well, I use The Chromium Theme Creator, and it works all fine and dandy, but when it builds the default.dll it makes indexed .png's which seem to be very very hard to edit. At least in GIMP. I can't use the gradient tool, or paint a perfect black. It comes out grey. Something weird with either GIMP or the fact that they're indexed? Can I somehow un-index them?

~tl;dr: Is there a way I could un-index the .png's to be able to edit them more openly?

(Also: This is my first post. Mods, if this isn't in the correct section please feel free to move it where it belongs.)

try using crxtheme editor instead . a lot simpler than creating for .dll and though limited, many more pros (ie. easier to update a theme whenever google releases a new version of chrome) .

thank you for the quick response. I have tried the .crx theme maker, but the background images wouldnt show up, only the colors that i chose for the tabs and such.

that's odd . you kept all the images .png ?
try using the images i've included for a test run . just extract to your desktop and run crxtheme.exe .

Uhhh... It doesn't seem to work at all... Is it because its not in the basic theme? The theme is the transparent aero classic theme that comes with chrome... I haven't seen any changes.

EDIT: I'd also like to know if u can un-index .png's if that knowledge is available, but knowing how to make a .crx theme is helpful too.

EDIT 2: Would I just be able to make a .png to the exact dimensions of the .dll's parts and save them as the same name? Would this solve my problem?

    1. you can't have chrome running when you click ''view theme'' or ''pack theme'' . if you do, it will look like your theme is never changing .
    2. yes you can make your own .png files with the same dimensions (some you can even customize the dimensions to suit your needs...ie. window_top_ images) but i have no clue if that will solve your problem .

In photoshop, some images you have to click on Images > Mode and select RGB Mode.
Others you can just double click on the lock icon in the layers panel, and unlock it.
    I'm not sure with GIMP.

As for why your crx theme isn't working, you need the default theme installed, first.

And one thing to keep in mind about dll themes, Dev has already switched to the chrome.dll, and stable will be soon to follow.
