Other posts suggest reinstall. No problem with that but how can I do so without losing my favorites and my passwords.
Any ideas anyone?

Save (or copy) your User data folder ...
Reinstall Chrome, then copy your files across ...
I've done this several times and had no problems ...
Passwords are in the Web Data file ...
By favourites, if you mean your thumbnails they're in the Thumbnails file ...
Enjoy ;-)
Favorites is an IE thing, in Chrome they are called Bookmarks and that's why they are in the bookmark bar...
In Windows XP you will find all data here (including a file called Bookmarks)
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default
All sorted.
Many thanks to both of you for the help.
In Vista ....
You'll find them in Bookmarks (in the same location as everything else) ;-)
