    Default Chrome memory usage

I don't know if it's memory usage or what but if I have chrome running for a while, everything begins to slow down to a halt.(I have 8 gigs of ram) It basically gets to a point where I have to restart the browser and the tabs. I thought chrome was supposed to be simple and using little memory. I thought that was why it didn't have any plugins/extra features... Anyway, I'm back to firefox for now. I love the Chrome interface but I can't work and browse at the same time, and the slow down is just too much to bear..

Oh, and I'm using computers with windows xp and vista..

Hi sam, Don't use windows build in taskmanager.. Try rightclicking in Chrome on the title bar and choose tasks/taskbar (can't remember the english word), then you can see what tab/extension/plugin that consumes your memory and terminate this single tab or plugin.. I usually have the problem with shockwave (that I don't use for anything anyway)..

Besides you should not have to close Chrome completely, as you have to do with Firefox... Each tab and so on runs in its own progress, so if you terminate 1 tab you woull free up memory without the need to complety restart browser..

I just checked the Chrome task manager against Vista's, and they report the same memory usage. 2 tabs, 4 processes, between 5kb and 42kb in size. A pretty small memory footprint, really.

I only have 2GB of RAM in a laptop, and have never had Chrome slow everything down. Chromium did yesterday, but reverting to Chrome 4.0.237.0 brought everything back to normal.
